Age UK Mid Mersey - MCST Programme Group Facilitator
Age UK Mid-Mersey is proud to have been awarded National Lottery funding to develop a Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) programme in each of our four boroughs. We will be developing and delivering MCST groups in Warrington, St Helens, Halton, and Knowsley, with first deliveries scheduled for June.
MCST is a weekly group programme for people living with mild to moderate dementia or cognitive impairment. Group members take part in meaningful and stimulating activities, proven to help maintain memory and mental functioning. The groups provide a fun, supportive environment where people can build new friendships. Activities include:
1. Discussions
2. Word games
3. Quizzes
4. Physical activities
5. Creative and musical activities
Cognitive Stimulation is the only non-drug treatment recommended to improve cognition, independence, and well-being by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
Alongside the MCST group sessions, the programme will also provide advice, information, and facilitated peer support for the carers of group members.
We are now recruiting for an MCST Team Leader and four Group Facilitators who will work in delivery pairs. One pair will deliver group programmes in Halton and Warrington and be based in our Runcorn Office. The other pair will deliver programmes in St Helens and Knowsley and be based at our head office in St Helens.
Each programme will run for 12 weeks and will consist of four-hour activity sessions with a shared lunch. Facilitators will adapt the session delivery to meet the needs and specific interests of group participants, ensuring the sessions are engaging and meaningful.
