Avantor is looking for a pro-active and motivated Laboratory Technician to join the team based in Cambridge. In this position, you'll take ownership of assisting scientists within the Biosciences laboratory by performing a range of general laboratory duties to ensure efficient operation of the department.
This role will be a full-time permanent position based in a brand-new facility at the customer site - The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Working hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:30 - 17:00 and Friday, 8:30 - 16:00
The team:
You'll work alongside other Laboratory Technicians, who are supporting laboratory operations. You will belong to our business department Lab and Production Services, which supports big pharmaceutical companies and laboratories all over the world, in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.
What we're looking for:
* Education: GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent) and an interest in science
* Experience:
Full training will be given; previous experience in a pharmaceutical/food manufacturing environment is desirable but not essential.
* Ability to understand and follow Health & Safety instructions
* Computer Literate
* Process driven with a high level of attention to detail
* Proven excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively
How you'll thrive and create an impact:
* Stock management and rotation: daily consumable replenishment, utilising the inventory system and regular checks of chemicals and reagents' expiry dates, and arranging disposal of any out-of-date materials via the correct waste disposal route.
* Maintenance of laboratory consumable inventory, supporting the identification of alternative products in the event of supply chain issues - preventing disruption to science.
* Ordering of glassware, plasticware, and media preparation solutions.
* Equipment calibration including pH meters and pipettes.
* Laboratory housekeeping, supervising, and keeping communal areas clean and tidy, waste management, and defrosting and cleaning of fridges and freezers.
