Job Title: Mechanical Project Manager\n\nLocation: Gatwick Airport\nSalary: £70k base salary plus benefits\n\nOverview of the Role:\n\nWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join our team. This permanent role, based at Gatwick Airport, involves estimating mechanical costs for a range of projects, with a focus on projects up to £5 million in value. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the early stages of project delivery by providing accurate cost estimates, ensuring competitiveness, and helping the company maintain its high standards of project execution.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nAs an Mechanical Project Manager your duties will include but are not limited to:\n\nCost Estimating and Analysis:\n\nReview tender documents, project drawings, and technical specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates for mechanical and electrical works.\nBreak down project requirements into material, labor, and overhead costs to provide comprehensive cost estimates.\nDevelop detailed Bill of Quantities (BoQ) and work schedules, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all estimates.\n\nTendering and Bidding:\n\nPrepare detailed and competitive tender submissions that comply with client specifications and timelines.\nCoordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to source competitive prices for materials and services.\nAssist in the negotiation process with clients, providing clarification on estimates and addressing any queries related to the bid.\n\nProject Planning and Budgeting:\n\nCollaborate with project managers and engineers to develop cost-effective solutions for projects, ensuring the project scope is met within budget constraints.\nSupport project teams in establishing project budgets and assist in financial planning through the project lifecycle.\n\nRisk Management:\n\nIdentify potential risks during the estimating phase, including cost escalation and supply chain issues, and propose mitigation strategies.\nAnalyze the financial viability of projects and advise on potential risks to profitability.\n\nTechnical Support:\n\nProvide technical input and support to the project team, particularly in understanding the mechanical and electrical systems of a project.\nOffer advice on design, cost-saving measures, and construction techniques to optimize the project budget.\n\nPost-Tender Support:\n\nWork with the project delivery teams to ensure the execution aligns with the estimated costs and help resolve any discrepancies.\nProvide ongoing support during the tender award and contract stages to ensure smooth transition into the execution phase.\n\nContinuous Improvement:\n\nKeep up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and estimating software.\nContinuously evaluate the estimation process and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in future projects.\n\nKey Qualifications and Skills:\n\nTo be successful in this role, you should possess:\n\nExperience: Proven experience as an Mechanical Project Manager, with hands-on experience in estimating mechanical works for construction projects up to £5 million.\nTechnical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction methods, and related specifications.
Familiarity with Mechanical design and installation practices is key.\nSoftware Proficiency: Knowledge of estimating software and proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, is required.
