PRINCIPAL INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER
Location: SOUTHAMPTON / HYBRID
Due to continued success and new Framework awards, we are looking to strengthen our Engineering Team with the appointment of a Principal EICA Engineer based in our Southampton office, with hybrid working available.
The ideal candidate will have a background in electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (EICA) and will be joining our multidisciplined Innovation, Design & Solutions (IDS) department working on the design of projects covering, but not limited to the following:
1. Water treatment
2. Water distribution and storage
3. Wastewater recycling
4. Desalination
5. Flood Defence
IDS are involved in all phases of the project lifecycle from feasibility studies through to detailed design and construction support and are instrumental in providing technical support across the business as a whole.
Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Reporting to the Electrical Design Manager as part of a multi-disciplined team of engineers working primarily on projects within our various UK Water Industry frameworks.
2. Interpret & understand project requirements from Client documents (drawings, specifications, correspondence, etc.).
3. Coordinating site condition surveys of existing assets.
4. Proactively drive a H&S focus throughout the design process, instigating development of design risk assessments to address risks identified during review activities.
5. Communicate with the internal teams, clients, external design resources and subcontractors to ensure compliance with specification.
6. Responsible for development of the following electrical design deliverables to facilitate the procurement and installation of electrical equipment:
1. Specifications/datasheets (E.g. MCC specifications/datasheets).
2. Design calculations (E.g. Modelling of the complete power distribution systems using EOM).
3. Design sketches/drawings using CAD software (E.g. SLDs, BCDs, Connection Diagrams etc.).
4. Design schedules (E.g. load schedules, cable schedules etc.).
7. Responsible for development of the following control & automation design deliverables:
1. Design sketches/drawings (E.g. P&IDs, Instrument Loop Diagrams, Control System Architecture Diagrams etc.)
2. Design schedules (E.g. instrument schedule, signal schedule etc.).
8. Supporting the Process Engineering team in the development of Process Control Philosophy documents, and subsequent development of User Requirement Specification (URS) documents.
9. Responsible for the review of Vendor information and integration of this into the design.
10. Providing technical support to site teams during installation/commissioning.
11. Managing the project specific design interfaces with Clients, external consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
12. Working with the Electrical Design Manager to monitor design effort against estimates/programmes.
13. Promote technical excellence and innovation within the team, contributing to the development of new design methodologies and tools.
14. Identify and escalate all instances of design change throughout the project lifecycle.
15. Leadership/mentoring of junior design staff throughout the design development lifecycle, including assurance that all designs comply with relevant UK water industry standards and regulations utilising Company QA processes.
Qualifications/background/skills:
1. BTEC/HNC/HND/BEng qualification in an EICA Engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
2. Experienced in delivering multi-discipline Engineering Projects.
3. Experience within the Water Industry.
