Civil Engineer Degree Apprentice - Level 6
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Level 6 Civil Engineer Degree Apprentice to join our dynamic CAFA team.
Job Title: Civil Engineer Degree Apprentice – Level 6
Duration: 60 months
Starting Salary: £23,529 (subject to 2025 review)
What You’ll Do:
* To fulfil the duties of a Trainee Civil Engineer in the assessment of rail structures, including Underline bridges, Overline bridges, footbridges, Undercrofts, Canopies, Train and Depot sheds, Side Bridges, Tunnels (that directly support external traffic loads), Other structures.
* Deliver the specified assessments task on time, within budget.
* Provide and support to Project Team.
* Aim to ensure compliance with Company and to Network Rail, Highway, and other relevant standards.
* Aim to ensure the highest standards of safety.
* Preparation of technical assessment/design remits, calculations, reports and drawings, which are technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
* Preparation for and undertaking of site work, to carry out inspections for assessment and inspection/examination of assets.
* Comply with technical standards, consistent with the project Technical Specification and in accordance with the requirements of Amey Integrated Managements System including Health & Safety, Environmental and all other appropriate regulations relevant standards and HSEQ documentation.
* Maintaining knowledge of industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice and independent engineering judgement with the team environment.
* Assisting and mentoring of less experienced or junior staff in the production of technical drawings, reports, and provision of feedback as appropriate.
* Maintain health, safety, and environmental compliance requirements, including the CDM Regulations.
* Supporting the project team in the preparations of cost estimates and subsequent successful delivery of commissions to programme, within budget and to the client’s requirements.

What You’ll Bring:
Qualifications:
* 3 x A-Levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science or their equivalent, or will have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering Technician.
* As part of your role, you will work towards a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject to satisfy the entry requirements for; CEng/IEeng through ICE, CIHT or IStructE.
* Prepared to complete the necessary training requirements for Chartered Professional Review or Incorporated Professional Review.
Skills:
* Full driving license or aiming to obtain it.
* Computer literate and thoroughly conversant with MS office suite.
* Has the appropriate technical skills and ability to successfully work within technical teams with high levels of quality.
* Analysis software (ArchieM, SuperStress, Tedds, Lusas, Masterseries, Leap bridge, Ring etc).
* Good communication skills, with ability to successfully work within a team, undertaking internal & external discussions with local clients and other stakeholders.
* Personal Track Safety within 6 months of training.
Experience:
* Gaining experience in railway structure inspections, assessment, and design schemes.
* Gaining experience in the assessment/design of major construction materials, including historical materials, e.g. Cast iron, wrought iron.
* Gaining knowledge of current and relevant health & safety, environmental and sustainability legislation.
