About the Role:
Reporting to the Managing Editor CNN, the General Manager EMEA & London Bureau Chief will oversee the day-to-day responsibilities for all EMEA bureaus and specifically London being the biggest hub.
This is a senior leadership role, requiring an ability to inspire, influence and collaborate with all teams across our EMEA locations as well the broader CNN organisation.
Core responsibilities will include:
1. In partnership with the Vice President, EMEA News, be aware of the current news cycle and act as an enabler to support the day-to-day editorial teams to focus on specific news priorities.
2. Serve as the “go-to” person for any escalation issues for the Editorial news teams across EMEA.
3. Focus on reinforcing a “follow the sun” global newsgathering strategy with Atlanta and Hong Kong, effective collaboration between regions; and offering guidance and direction to the teams in all locations, as required.
4. Experience of integrating digital, newsgathering and production teams to deliver high quality multi-platform content.
5. Working closely with the Vice President, EMEA News, and colleagues across CNN International, identify specific priorities for the regions maintaining CNN relations with government officials, local agencies, and the diplomatic world.
6. A component of the role will be working with the VP, EMEA News and PR to manage the external reputation of the CNN bureau ensuring our high editorial standards are maintained.
7. Oversight/management of the network’s correspondents based in the region.
8. Oversee bureau strategy; important cross-departmental workplace/corporate initiatives, specifically in the areas of diversity, inclusion and gender pay.
9. Alongside the Security Logistics team, play a key role in supporting them set the strategic direction of how CNNI protects and supports its workforce across EMEA.
10. With a focus on continuous improvement, oversee bureau ensuring the EMEA news hubs are fully functional and operational.
11. Oversee the teams that are responsible for Bureau logistics and all associated technical operations, including responsibility for input into security equipment and deployment as needed in conjunction with the Director of Security.
12. Support the day-to-day oversight of EMEA teams showing expert leadership and management support, ensuring ethics and operating practices are best in class.
13. You will be well versed in creating an enabling work environment and creating a positive company culture where people feel supported, challenged and part of a great team.
Onsite Working: This role is advertised as Onsite, meaning all working hours and days (regardless of shift pattern) will be carried out at the place of work. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement, where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
