Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working with the design team leads to manage the technical interface between the design team and other project stakeholders.
The team carries out a range of substation design work from 11kV to 132kV including Primary, Secondary, and Protection & Control. The role responsibilities will principally involve managing the technical interface with specialist sub-contractors, client technical representatives, design authorities, and construction teams. This will include managing the design review process, liaising with specialist sub-contractors, interfacing with construction teams, completing design compliance reviews of construction works, and supervising temporary works design. You would also be expected to provide advice and guidance to the design team with civil engineering design and consents.
The role would suit somebody with an engineering background who is self-motivated and has a proactive approach to problem-solving with experience of project supervision within the power, engineering, or construction environments.
Role Responsibility
Assist the Engineering manager and Team Leads with the planning and control of the design team, including but not limited to the following:
* Management of design compliance review procedures.
* Managing the technical interface with project stakeholders.
* Liaising with civil engineering design sub-contractors and providing civil design support/guidance to the design team.
* Providing an interface with the construction teams, including carrying out site-based design compliance reviews and assisting in the project completion process.
* Supervision of Temporary Works Design.
* Liaising with land consents and surveying sub-contractors. Provide land consents advice and guidance to the design team.
* Support the engineering team with the creation, implementation, and monitoring of business processes.
* Attending periodic team and client meetings.
The Ideal Candidate
Qualifications
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in either electrical power or civil engineering. A person with a lower qualification level, but who can demonstrate a high level of industry knowledge and experience would be considered.
Experience
* Resource management and control.
* Project supervision and commercial issues.
* Business and quality management processes.
* Knowledge of relevant British and International standards.
* Knowledge of UK H&S standards, including CDM regulations.
* Knowledge of Business and Quality Management Processes.
The following knowledge and experiences would be of an advantage:
* Working in a design or construction-based environment.
* National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS).
Skills
* Experience in the use of CAD design software would be advantageous, but not essential (e.g., AutoCAD, Microstation).
* Good personal management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work within a team environment.
* Good computer literacy, including use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and email).
* Full UK driving licence.
