An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Registered Nurse to work within the Emergency Department at Royal Derby Hospital. The Adult Emergency Department at Royal Derby Hospital is one of the busiest AEDs in the country, seeing on average 120,000 patients per year.
As a band 6 Sister/Charge nurse within the department you must have excellent communication skills, organisational skills and be able to lead a team. You will work in all areas of the department.
Emergency Department has expanded its size in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have a 7 bedded resuscitation unit, 7 bay initial assessment area, 22 bay majors area. In addition to this we have the capacity to open and additional area which has 9 separate bays/cubicles and a large waiting room.
We have an area for patients presenting who are ambulatory. This area consists of a main waiting room which has 2 triage rooms we can operate from and additional sub wait areas with 4 assessment bays. We also have an area where our Emergency Nurse Practitioners work and a new Urgent Treatment Centre. This area sees up to 100 people daily and have multiple assessment and treatment rooms.
Main duties of the job
There will be the opportunity take charge of areas of the department and ensure they are managed efficiently, and that concerns or problems are escalated appropriately and timely to ensure the patients journey is safe and efficient.
You will be expected to manage a small team to complete annual appraisals, to ensure they have a development plan and monitor their mandatory training. You will also be required to provide support for their health and well-being.
We are a Trauma unit and have close links with the Major Trauma Centre in Nottingham, we are the only Acute Trust in the East Midlands to have a helipad on site. We are supported by Matron, 10 Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses, a Clinical Educator team who provide opportunities for training and development. We work closely with the Universities of Derby and Nottingham and are committed to the professional development of our staff in order to progress within Emergency Medicine.The department has previously won Emergency Department Clinical Team of the year at the annual Royal College of Emergency Medicine awards. We also received a highly commendable at the HSJ awards for patient safety initiative for our internal work around SAFECARE.
