Brentwood Senior School is an academically selective HMC co-educational independent school with small class sizes and a happy, ambitious and supportive staff team. It is part of Brentwood School, a 3-18 HMC school of 1900 pupils, just 35 minutes from London Liverpool Street.
We are seeking to appoint a Head of Athletic Development who will play a key role in shaping and delivering the school’s vision for athletic growth and physical literacy. This development is embedded across the curriculum through PE, Games lessons, and co-curricular opportunities. Physical literacy is introduced to all students through a dedicated unit in core PE, while our Elite Performer Programme offers Strength and Conditioning sessions to support talented athletes. This position is full-time, term time, plus 4 weeks in school holidays as directed by the line manager, which may includeresidential trips. The Head of Athletic Development will work most (term time) Saturdays as directed by the Director of Sport to coach teams as required across all three terms.
We are particularly interested in applicants with a strong background in Strength and Conditioning, and experience working in either school or club settings. Knowledge of long term development practices for young male and female athletes is essential, while the successful candidate will also be expected to coach a sports team when required across all three terms (with a desire to coach football being advantageous).
Our PE department promotes a balance of broad participation and sporting excellence. Our curriculum includes Core PE, GCSE PE (OCR), A Level PE (OCR), and BTEC Level 3 Sport, with weekly Games afternoons for all students. Athletic development is a daily feature of school life, with initiatives like ‘Brentwood School Movement’ and the ‘athleticism strand’ embedded in our sporting principles. This role will also support collaboration with the Prep School, helping to build a unified and holistic approach to physical education from ages 3 to 18.
Brentwood School has its own pay scale that is significantly above the maintained sector.
Applications can be submitted through the TES website, alternatively, applicants who do not have a TES account should use the relevant Interactive Recruitment Form on this page. The School reserves the right to change these dates, and to close the vacancy at any time.
Brentwood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
