This is an exciting time to work for the Department for Transport (DfT) and an opportunity to gain a strong working knowledge within a dynamic commercial (sourcing and procurement) environment, to support national infrastructure and transport for the public and industry as we move towards decarbonisation.
The role holder will be based in the DDaT CRM Category Team. The DDaT CRM Category Team is a busy team which supports and influences the entire Department. It provides a direct service to the Department’s Digital Services team delivering commercial (sourcing and procurement) solutions to core issues such as infrastructure, equipment and systems.
The job is fast paced and varied with multiple stakeholders and requires someone comfortable working effectively at speed, combining a keen customer focus with the authority to challenge to ensure our legal commercial obligations are met. The team is also responsible for developing IT strategies using real procurements and transactions around issues like AI-use and we arrange world-class training sessions with consultants particularly on AI solutions.
The primary role is to provide a wide range of customers from across the DfT with commercial advice, support and tools to plan their requirements for digitally enabled services; run competitions and deliver compliant Value for Money solutions to support the taxpayer which in turn deliver on departmental policies.
The role holder potentially manages up to two members of staff. You will have the responsibility to providing effective leadership, guidance, and support to your staff and supporting the collective leadership culture. You are also accountable for ensuring that your team and the overall Group Commercial Directorate deliver high-quality outputs and outcomes in line with the organisational objectives and values.
Great line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills set out in the Civil Service Line Management Standards. We aim to empower line managers to create teams where people can flourish and deliver excellent outcomes for the public.
Responsibilities
Include, but not limited to:
* Manage a portfolio of digital procurements with a delegated authority limit of £5m to sign off competed Contract Awards in-line with DfT’s procurement guidelines.
* Advise customers on the procurement process; assess and navigate the most appropriate route to market, taking into account the associated risks and the political landscape.
* Support procurements from strategy development through to Contract Award (below and above Public Contract Regulation thresholds).
* Provide Contract Management expertise to support customers in delivery of successful Commercial outcomes both in terms of value for money and achieving contractual deliverables.
* Engage closely with colleagues in Group Commercial Directorate, in particular the Systems team, the Data & MI team, other Commercial Relationship Managers and Advisors, Policy, and Supplier Relationship Management colleagues, which may involve representing CRM on a working group and in nominated governance groups or boards.
