Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for a specified group of patients.
2. Takes charge of the ward as delegated by the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse for a specified period of time.
3. Acts as a Team Leader, delegating appropriate tasks and supervising the standard of care delivered by more junior qualified staff, unqualified staff and learner nurses in the ward team.
4. Assists the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in the management of preceptorship of newly qualified staff, returning to nursing staff and the mentorship of nursing students and health care support workers.
5. Undertake and document a comprehensive, systematic and accurate nursing assessment of the physical, social and spiritual needs of the patients where appropriate.
6. Creates and utilizes opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients in their care.
7. Leads a nursing team to manage a group of patients throughout a shift.
8. Ensure that all staff work within the Policies, Procedures of the Trust in line with NMC Guidance.
9. Maintain a positive attitude towards continuing professional education to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for safe and effective nursing practice.
10. Maintain standards by ensuring that evidence-based practice underpins all nursing interventions.
11. Participate in the Trust Appraisal system.
12. Liaise with Ward/Department Team, other Wards and Departments as appropriate to ensure patients receive optimum care.
