The Wessex Regional Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Cancer Service is looking to appoint an enthusiastic senior sister/charge nurse to take a key role in the running and further development of the service. This secondment post is available immediately for 12 months to help run the C6 Teenage and Young Adult inpatient and outpatient areas.
A dedicated age-appropriate facility for TYA patients (aged 16-24 years) was opened at SGH in September 2013. It comprises 6 inpatient beds and 4 day care areas. The post holder will be a pivotal member of the TYA multidisciplinary team which provides medical, social, psychological, and emotional support to this patient population.
The post will offer broad experience in the care of in-patients and out-patients in the management of the full range of malignancies observed in the TYA population including acute leukaemias, lymphomas, sarcomas, germ-cell tumours, brain tumours, and others that occur less commonly. In addition, the post holder will be involved in the supervised delivery of high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell rescue and a range of clinical trials.
Applicants should be able to deliver SACT administration along with experience in the care of oncology or haematology patients. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a willingness to learn and work within a multidisciplinary team in a changing environment, together with adaptability to clinical and service requirements.

10. To liaise with the inter-professional team to enable care and treatments to be correctly carried out in accordance with Trust and local policy.
11. To facilitate the reception of patients and their relatives in a calm, friendly, courteous, and reassuring manner.
12. To involve the Matron in any untoward incidents and problems.
13. To actively contribute to the Clinical Governance Agenda.
14. To be involved in and to action patient satisfaction feedback mechanisms.
15. To monitor the rostering of the nursing staff to ensure best utilization of the agreed workforce levels.
16. To ensure all staff promote safe custody of patients’ property and valuables.
17. To lead on recruitment and retention for designated ward/unit areas.
18. To ensure all staff undergo a period of induction.
