General Post Description
SEND Teacher (Resource Base) will plan, deliver, and evidence high-quality learning opportunities in line with the school’s curriculum for pupils with significant and complex needs associated with ASC and/or SCLN.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Work in small class sizes with high staff to pupil ratios; plan, deliver, and evidence high-quality learning opportunities in line with the school’s curriculum.
* Collaborate with the class team to promote a love of learning for children and enable them to make good progress towards their EHCP outcomes and individual Learning Intentions.
* Develop innovative and forward-thinking approaches to learning and communication tools to maximize pupil potential and learning opportunities.
* Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with pupil needs and outcomes at the core.
* Safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils at all times.
* Model best practice approaches and support staff through challenging episodes with children.
* Ensure all aspects of the children’s education day are planned, assessed, and reviewed holistically, meeting individual needs.
* Deliver face-to-face planning to all children in your class while constantly evaluating your practice.
* Assess and moderate children’s work in line with the school policies.
* Support Mainstream Teachers and Teaching Assistants with enabling children to access subject areas away from the resource base when appropriate.
* Deliver therapy-led programmes (where trained) to support progress towards EHCP outcomes.
* Oversee the implementation and content of the EHCP for children in your class.
* Take a lead in all meetings related to children in your class and liaise appropriately with internal and external colleagues.
* Manage and support all children in regulating and reducing challenging behaviour, including appropriate use of physical intervention (where trained) in line with the school policy and the individual’s Behaviour Support Plan.
* Facilitate activities with individuals or small groups of children to support their physical, emotional, and educational development, which may include swimming, outdoor activities, animal care, and community access.
* Promote and reinforce children’s self-esteem and encourage them to maximize their achievement and development, including promoting children’s independence.
* Appropriately risk assess activities and events for children.
* Establish positive relationships with parents/carers to facilitate effective communication, consistency, and partnership between school and home.
* Assist in supervising children during lunch as required.
* Follow child protection and safeguarding procedures at all times, reporting concerns immediately and remaining up to date on all relevant safeguarding training.
* Build positive relationships with all colleagues and complete regular supervisions with the Teaching Assistant(s) for your class.
* Maintain absolute confidentiality and follow all GDPR-related guidance and policy.

* Take responsibility for continued personal development through the performance review process and undertake both mandatory and developmental training as appropriate.
