We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Temporary Nursery Manager to cover for maternity leave. The Nursery Manager is to oversee the daily operations of our nursery. The ideal candidate will have a passion for early childhood education and a commitment to providing a safe, nurturing environment for children. This role involves managing staff, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering positive relationships with parents and the community.
Responsibilities
1. Oversee the daily operations of the nursery, ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for children.
2. Manage and support nursery staff, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
3. Develop and implement educational programmes that meet the needs of children aged 0-5 years.
4. Maintain compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
5. Establish strong relationships with parents, providing regular updates on their children's progress.
6. Manage budgets and resources effectively to ensure the nursery operates efficiently.
7. Conduct regular assessments of children's development and implement strategies for improvement.
8. Organise events and activities that engage families and promote community involvement.
9. Ensure the provision is of the highest quality, providing a safe, stimulating, and caring child-centered environment catering for the children's educational and developmental needs.
10. Ensure that all agreed quality, health and safety standards are maintained in the nursery at all times.
11. Liaise closely with parents/carers to ensure parent partnerships are paramount.
12. Create and deliver staff training plans to ensure ongoing professional development.
13. Report any recommendations for development and work with the CEO to implement agreed changes.
14. Work with the CEO to maintain Ofsted registration and ensure high-quality provision.

1. Strong leadership and management skills to effectively guide a team.
2. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with staff, parents, and children.
3. Knowledge of early years education frameworks and child development principles.
4. Ability to create engaging educational programmes tailored to children's needs.

Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage a professional team, motivating them with a shared sense of direction, pride, and energy.
2. Communicate staff roles, responsibilities, and expectations effectively.
3. Responsible for recruitment, supervision, and management of childcare staff, including creating staffing rotas and chairing staff meetings.
4. Carry out all appropriate suitability checks on new employees.
5. Develop and maintain a bank of nursery staff to provide cover as required.
6. Identify staff training and development needs, ensuring these are met in collaboration with the CEO.
7. Plan and manage staff supervision and appraisals.
Operational Control
1. Ensure the smooth running of the nursery, meeting all Ofsted standards and registration conditions.
2. Monitor occupancy levels and market the nursery to maximise enrollment.
3. Ensure the highest standards of safety and security are maintained, including robust emergency procedures.
4. Responsible for the day-to-day management of the nursery, including health and safety compliance and essential repairs.
Budgetary Control
1. Ensure occupancy and revenue targets are met.
2. Manage operational costs within budget and report fee arrears to the CEO.
3. Control and manage the ordering of supplies within budgetary limits.
Curriculum Development and Good Childcare Practice
1. Ensure high-quality educational provision in line with the EYFS Framework.
2. Support children’s individual needs within the group setting.
3. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of observations, assessments, and planning.
Record Keeping and Reports
1. Collect and maintain accurate records of staff, children, and families, providing regular reports to the CEO.
2. Ensure secure storage and appropriate access to information, in compliance with data protection legislation.
Parental Involvement
1. Build strong relationships with parents/carers, ensuring their involvement in the nursery's work and children's progress.
Liaison with Outside Agencies
1. Develop links with Sandwell MBC and local schools, ensuring high-quality care.
2. Maintain positive relationships with Ofsted and other childcare providers.
Essentials
1. Paediatric First Aid Training.
2. Must hold qualification at NVQ level 3 or above, Level 4 qualification is desirable.
3. Minimum 2 years Managerial experience working in a nursery.
4. Strong leadership and people management skills.
5. Good knowledge of Ofsted standards and health & safety legislation.
6. DSL Training.
7. Must be on updated service.
