We are looking for a creative, collaborative person to develop, deliver and evaluate the charity’s STEM and/or Literature outreach programme for children and young people. While subject knowledge/specialism is a consideration, we are mostly looking for the right person for the role.
Job Description
Assist the Head of Learning and Participation and Head of Programming for the Science and/or Literature Festivals in shaping Cheltenham Festivals' offer for children and young people.
Take the lead on consultation, relationships with schools, delivery and evaluation of the Science and/or Literature Festival Schools' programme, and work closely with the Science and/or Literature Festival Schools & Family Programme Manager on programming.
Develop and project manage a range of the schools' year-round outreach projects, so that they deliver on their objectives and expand nationally and internationally.
Actively pursue local partnerships to maximise the community engagement and audience development of the Science Festival and/or Literature Festival (e.g., Cheltenham Education Partnership).
Work across the Learning & Participation team, supporting schools and community activity across other CF programmes.
Work with the Head of L&P to set the budgets for the outreach projects, and take responsibility for managing, monitoring and reporting.
Build Cheltenham Festivals' profile within existing and new subject-specialist networks.
Liaise with Festival and Marketing teams to promote the programmes in order to increase participation and to build the CF brand.
Support the Development team in attracting funding for learning and participation projects.
Write concise and accurate reports.
Coordinate, contract and support freelance practitioners, volunteers and work experience students.
Job Requirements
Strong project management skills and exceptional people skills.
Up-to-date knowledge of the National Curriculum and exam syllabuses (if secondary-trained), preferably in STEM and/or English.
Ability to build good relationships both internally and externally to promote the charity's mission and vision.
Ability to manage a complex workload within agreed deadlines.
Capacity to manage multiple stakeholders to drive a project forward.
Management of budgets for specific projects identifying commercial opportunities when appropriate.
Understanding of the Education system and school management structures.
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
Understanding of how digital initiatives can enhance learning.
Evidence of successful teaching experience (primary or secondary).
Ability to write concise and accurate reports in order to demonstrate impact.
Job Responsibilities
Children and young people are central to the work of Cheltenham Festivals. The Learning and Participation Team consists of five people: Head of Department, 2 Learning and Participation Managers, 1 FameLab Manager and L&P Events Co-ordinator, and 1 L&P Co-ordinator.
The Learning and Participation Manager reports to the Head of Department and will assist them in shaping the L&P programme.
The Learning and Participation Manager's main role is to work collaboratively to develop, deliver and evaluate the charity's STEM and Literacy activities for children and young people.
