We have an exciting opportunity for a Band5Audiologistin Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. BHFT provides Audiology services across Slough, Maidenhead,Bracknelland Windsor. We are a young and vibrant team and are looking for a motivated audiologist to join us in this development role where further training in specialist clinics will be encouraged and supported.
This post is for a full time (37.5 hrs/week) and permanent position. The base for this post will be King Edward Hospital and the applicant maybe requiredto cover clinics in other sites. You should have a BSc in Audiology or equivalent and will be registered with theAcademy forHealthcare Science (AHCS,Clinical Physiologist)or Health and Care Professions Council(HCPC, Clinical Scientist). You should have experience in adult diagnostic and rehabilitative care.
Graduates will be considered for this role.
Some of the duties include:
• Work unsupervised whilst performing all standard hearing tests for both adults andchildren(>3yearsofage)followingprofessionalstandardsandprotocols.
• AssistseniorAudiologistsinperformingadvancedaudiologicalprocedures.
• Takedetailedmedical andaudiological histories,interprettestresults,identifyredflagsand where needed to onwards refer to appropriate stakeholders.Explain these topatients,relativesand carers inan appropriate, empathetic manner, being sensitive to the complex communication difficulties of patients who are Deaf or hard of hearing.Advise the adult patient on audiological management options and agree a treatmentplanwith them.
• Perform physical examination of the ear and inspection of the ear canal and eardrumusing an otoscope. Recognise referable ear conditions using clinical judgement andproceduralguidelines.
• Take a specialised andaccurateear impression by syringing dedicatedearmouldmaterial into the ear canalin accordance withprocedural guidelines. This will requireeffectivecommunicationwith andthe co-operation ofthepatient.

The “must haves” for this role:
• BSc in Healthcare Science - Audiology / HCCC in Audiology
• Prior to 2006, basic qualification in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurements (or equivalent) and successfully completed both parts of BAAT I and II and/or HTEC in MPPM
• Possess AHCS/HCPC registration and hold an up to date CPD portfolio
• Demonstrated during or post-qualification experience working autonomously in both adult and some paediatric testing in both diagnostic and rehabilitative areas.
• Have knowledge of all standard and advanced test procedures. Knowledge and understanding of professional policies and procedures.
• Have completed appropriate record of clinical competence.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills particularly with the hard of hearing and deaf.
• Possess good computer and database skills
• Possess fine manual dexterity.
• Excellent written communication skills
• Have flexible approach to working hours
• Evidence of an enquiring mind, with a scientific approach and a commitment to Trust values
• Willingness to undertake further professional training.
