Purpose of the Job
The postholders will be adept at managing comprehensive media campaigns, fostering relationships with media outlets at home and overseas, and creating impactful content across various internal and external platforms. This role demands strategic vision, creativity, and a deep understanding of media dynamics.
The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for delivering a wide range of communication activities, including creating news stories, responding to media enquiries, developing online content and social media activity. The postholders will also work on internal communications, in addition to working on a variety of other activities.
Duties will include communicating key messages both internally and externally raising the profile of the University.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assist in developing and implementing the University’s media relations strategy to enhance its profile regionally, nationally, and internationally.
2. Manage day-to-day media relations activities, including responding to media enquiries and proactively seeking media opportunities.
3. Create and manage content for various external and internal communication channels, ensuring alignment with the University's brand and messaging.
4. Develop and execute media campaigns that showcase the University’s academic and research excellence.
5. Build and maintain relationships with key media contacts and influencers.
6. Collaborate with internal departments, including brand, marketing and student recruitment, to ensure integrated communications efforts.
7. Contribute to budget management, ensuring efficient use of resources.
8. Support the Head of Media and Communications in crisis communication management and provide timely and effective responses to emerging issues.

9. The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

13. Educated to degree level in a related subject or have demonstrable equivalent experience.
Desirable
14. A relevant professional qualification or accreditation.
Experience/Knowledge

15. Experience of producing and placing news coverage.
16. Proven ability to write ‘media-friendly’ stories.
17. Experience of responding publicly to sensitive and difficult issues.
18. Knowledge and understanding of online communications channels, particularly social media.
Desirable
19. A good understanding of brand positioning and development.
20. Experience of integrating online activity into offline materials.
21. Experience managing social media strategies.
Skills/Abilities
Essential
22. The ability to speak and write Welsh fluently in a wide variety of situations is essential for this post.
