Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within a forward thinking palliative medicine department as a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse on the Nightingale Macmillan Unit. The area has 21 beds, with the flexibility to increase to 24 beds in times of pressure to support the trust,and looks after patients nearing the end of their lives. We are looking for an individual who has demonstrable experience of leading and contributing to the development of an inpatient team and who is committed to delivering high standards of holistic care, and must have a caring and empathetic attitude. The individual must be a positive role model to the junior staff and be able to demonstrate their ability to have advanced communication skills. Main duties of the job To support the Senior sister in the day to day management of the unit and to ensure the delivery of patient centred, clinically effective holistic care is provided in a safe and caring environment. Provide specific clinical knowledge and advice to the multi-professional team and taking into account all aspects of Clinical Governance promote and develop the use of evidence based practice to improve the outcomes of patient care. Provide supervision of the delivery of care by junior staff, allocating the clinical workload as required and responding to changing clinical situations, whilst providing the necessary advice and support to maintain high standards of patient care.Act as a role model at all times and ensure that all team members and others visiting the area give a high priority to policies and procedures relating to infection control in order to maintain a safe clinical environment for everyone.Provide guidance and support to junior members of staff and comply with the NMC standards for mentors.Maintain accurate, legible and timely records of patient care using the current patient recording system.
