About the job We are a global offshore geoscience and geotechnical engineering consultancy specialising in marine geophysics and geotechnics, ground modelling, foundation engineering, cables/pipelines, trenching and numerical analyses. We work primarily in the offshore renewable energy and sporadically in the oil and gas industry for clients who design, install, and operate offshore, nearshore, and onshore facilities. Our teams have a strong pipeline of projects and anticipate accelerating growth with the development of wind farms in the North Sea, the Baltic Sea, Mediterranean, United States and on the Asian continent. We are looking for a experienced senior structural engineer to join our team in Europe, either: Newcastle Upon Tyne or Brussels in a senior level role. The successful candidate will be involved in the structural and geotechnical design of anchors and foundations and have proven experience in delivering structural and ideally geotechnical commissions. She/he will be well-equipped to collaborate with our structural and geotechnical engineering staff to deliver consultancy services for our offshore energy projects. You will work with dynamic and entrepreneurial colleagues spread across a range of disciplines and focused on delivering anchor and foundation design projects. Those services will include structural foundation designs and geotechnical designs. You will be working with experienced structural and geotechnical engineers, as part of a team or managing teams. You will be exposed to client contacts and be required to ‘think outside the box’ and, where required, push the boundaries of knowledge in the industry in key areas such as floating wind, anchoring, mooring, pile group analysis, pile cap and grouting design etc. You will be given the opportunity to contribute to research and development initiatives, participating in international conferences and the preparation of technical papers. Who are we looking for? The ideal candidate will have a degree in Structural Engineering and shall demonstrate 5 years post study, relevant industry experience in foundation engineering and the implementation of geotechnical design methods for offshore projects. A MEng degree and formal training or experience in geotechnical engineering would be an asset. Direct, extensive experience in structural/mooring design of foundations and anchors will be essential. Installation, operations and maintenance experience, particularly for offshore structures will also be a plus. Requirements MEng in relevant Engineering discipline (Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering) Minimum 5 years' experience in the offshore energy industry Advanced knowledge of the following topics and related industry codes and standards: Design and operation of offshore mooring systems/anchors/foundations Structural analysis and design for offshore/subsea structure structures Geotechnical assessment/analysis for offshore/subsea foundations Understanding of recognised UK and International quality standards eg ISO 9001 A good working knowledge of API RP 2I, DNV-RU-OU-0300, DNV-OS-E301, DNV-RP-E301, DNV-RP-E302, DNV-RP-E303, DNV-RP-E304. Competent user of the following engineering software packages including creation and reviewing of models: Structural analysis software (such as ANSYS) Geotechnical engineering software (such as PLAXIS) Drag anchor assessment software (such as DIGIN) Pile analysis software (such as LPILE, OPILE, RSPILE) Computer aided design and drafting software (2D or 3D) Proven record of producing high-quality outputs and work practices Willingness to continue learning and developing new technical knowledge and business acumen Effective management of his/her own work in terms of quality, timescales, utilisation and invoicing Good communication skills, initiative and team work Represent Cathie at client meetings, workshops, presentations and publications Lead and/or contribute to project management activities, including budgets, resources, client liaison, delivery, and QA Respectful of fellow colleagues and managers, with a proactive attitude, and strong work ethic Duties/responsibilities Delivery of structural engineering consultancy services, as relates to all anchor types ensuring quality of work, completion on time and in budget and compliance of contractual requirements. Carry out engineering activities, such as geotechnical assessment and structural analysis identifying the correct methodologies, software and work planning requirements. Provide technical advice in response to internal/external queries related to design, installation and operations of anchoring systems. Prepare response to RFQ/ITT for engineering consultancy services. Develop the technical capability and expertise of the company and promote a culture of excellence.
