Are you a skilled HR professional passionate about making a difference in a unique and rewarding environment? The Welsh Mountain Zoo, operating as a registered charity, is seeking an experienced HR Manager to join our dedicated team.
About Us
Our Zoo is home to a diverse range of animals and a committed team working together to inspire conservation, education, and community engagement. As a charity, we rely on the dedication of our staff and volunteers to fulfil our mission.
The Role
As HR Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our team by delivering a full spectrum of HR services. You’ll ensure our people practices align with our values, support the Zoo’s goals, and foster a positive, inclusive, and compliant workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee all HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, and payroll coordination.
* Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in line with current employment legislation.
* Partner with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to align HR strategies with the Zoo’s vision and mission, ensuring people practices support organisational goals.
* Provide expert advice to the SLT on workforce planning, talent development, and succession planning.
* Support managers in handling complex employee relations cases and providing coaching and guidance.
* Drive staff engagement initiatives, wellbeing programs, and professional development opportunities.
* Ensure compliance with safeguarding and health & safety standards.
* Provide regular HR reports to the leadership team, offering insights and recommendations.
About You
You’ll be a proactive and approachable HR professional with a passion for working in mission-driven organisations.
This role offers autonomy and the opportunity to shape the HR function, with plans to grow and evolve the department in the future. While payroll experience would be an advantage, it is not a strict requirement.
We are open to considering candidates currently in Senior HR Adviser roles or similar, who are ready to take the next step in their career.
* Level 5 CIPD qualification and active membership of the CIPD.
* A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an HR generalist, ideally in a similar role or sector.
* Proven experience in managing employee relations, policy development, and recruitment.
* Able to work independently.
* Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practices.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
* A problem-solving mindset and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Experience working in a charity, not-for-profit, or animal-focused organisation.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and volunteer management practices.
What We Offer
* A competitive salary (dependent on experience).
* The opportunity to work in a unique and inspiring environment.
* Free entry to our Zoo for staff and immediate family and discounts in our café and shop.
