Join PerkinElmer lab service team as a Junior Laboratory Technician. The role is mainly responsible for routine task completion to ensure the efficient operations within the customer lab space, to give time back to the scientists.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Perform routine calibration/verification checks on a range of laboratory equipment.
2. Upkeep and cleaning of lab equipment to ensure the scientific quality of customer projects.
3. General laboratory tasks, including maintenance of equipment, stocking of consumables/chemicals/reagents, and overall lab upkeep.
4. Specific tasks tailored to the customers’ requirements.
5. Follow SOPs, protocols, and other guidelines as it relates to the required tasks.
6. Interact with colleagues in other functions to solve technical problems.
7. Maintain training and compliance in areas of health and safety, security, environmental and operational aspects of daily activities in the working environment.
8. Provide and escalate continuous improvement initiatives to benefit ways of working.
Critical Skills:
1. Attention to detail and understanding of the basic laboratory environment.
2. Excellent organizational skills: ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently.
3. Excellent communication skills.
4. Basic experience with MS Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
5. Excellent customer service and customer relations skills.
6. Ability to critically review ways of working effectively.
Qualifications:
1. Good educational background.
2. Experience within a laboratory environment is a plus.
Working Environment:
1. Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, etc.).
2. Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
3. Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time.
4. Occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite. Frequently operate on instruments, objects, tools, or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting, stretching, and reaching to perform in a service function.
5. Occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds).
6. Specific vision abilities required by this position include the ability to observe details at close range, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus to perform the essential service functions of this position.
7. Occasionally operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
8. Employee may be required to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations. Duties may include identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing, and labeling hazardous waste.
9. Potential risk to lab-based hazards including but not limited to extreme temperature, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.
May be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment.
