Locum Oral Surgery Consultant - Fixed term 12 months
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust
Calderdale & Huddersfield Foundation NHS Trust are seeking to appoint a fixed term locum Consultant in Oral Surgery to cover for maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful post holder to develop and shape oral surgery services in this large region serving a population of 646,600 people and growing. To this end we require a full-time post and seek a consultant who is able to demonstrate their ability to lead and develop services and interact well with cross-site maxillofacial consultants from the neighbouring Trust (Bradford Teaching Hospital), local GPs and dentists.
The post-holder will be expected to be independent in Oral Surgery and demonstrate a commitment to teaching. The appointee will join the Dental Specialties Team as a Consultant in Oral Surgery and will be responsible for the care of the Oral Surgery patients together with the existing Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery consultants. The successful candidate will be required to undertake managerial duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of the department and will be expected to participate in all facets of departmental activity. Managerial and high-level governance experience is therefore a requirement for this role.
Main duties of the job
It is expected that the post-holder will be able to deliver on all degrees of disease management as well as provide support, training and supervision for junior medical staff (inc. non-training grades), allied health professionals and Dental Nurses.
The appointee will work with colleagues within the CHFT Oral Surgery Department, Bradford Teaching Hospital Maxillofacial Surgeons, Calderdale and Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Group and Local Primary Care Dental Groups to deliver a comprehensive Oral Surgery service to the population served by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust and, in particular, to patients referred to the Consultant.
This requires a flexible attitude to working practices, managing patients in partnership with other consultant colleagues and professional staff and making the best possible use of resources put at the disposal of the Department. This is likely to require negotiated changes of duties and time-tabled sessions from time to time. Cross-site working is rarely required for this role but may be necessary especially when dealing with the paediatric cohort.
The timetable below indicates the proposed weekly duties to be performed by the consultant but would be open to modification depending on the expertise of the successful applicant.
The post holder will have 1.5 core SPA allocated in the first instance, any additional SPA for specific roles will be discussed with the successful candidate.
