Lead Trader - Environmental Commodities (Biomethane & Power)
My client is a leading environmental consultancy based in London which helps organizations around the world implement renewable energy, transportation decarbonization, and other climate solutions. To expand their portfolio of climate services, they are seeking an experienced a self-driven individual to run a dedicated European Green Desk on a hybrid basis and possibly remote depending.
They already have a strong presence and proven track record in the UK across Carbon, Green Gas and REGO markets. They’re looking to further expand In Europe where they currently trade in cross-border Biomethane and GOs and looking to further expand activity in these markets
You will join their dynamic team to grow and manage the European origination and trading of Power GOs and Biomethane Certificates.
In this position, you will play a critical role in cultivating strategic relationships, structuring commercial agreements, and identifying opportunities within the rapidly expanding Carbon, Biomethane, and Renewable Power markets.
Key Responsibilities:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Renewable GoO Generators, Renewable Gas Suppliers, and Consumers across Europe. Identify opportunities to establish structural supply and demand positions in these markets.
• Expand the company’s presence and influence in the European Renewables Market.
• Develop and negotiate commercial terms and transactions, crafting strategies for monetizing, optimizing, and managing risks associated with market exposures.
• Oversee the complete lifecycle of transactions, from due diligence through execution, ensuring post-contractual obligations are met.
• Contribute to team growth by participating in hiring decisions and taking responsibility for P&L reporting.
Requirements:
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with a Renewable Energy Certificate broker or trader.
• Strong understanding of Environmental Product markets.
• Proven ability to identify commercial opportunities, build relationships, and develop new business from the ground up.
• Demonstrated success in generating profitable trades.
• A degree in business, marketing, or sales is preferred but not mandatory.
• Proficiency in English is required; fluency in additional European languages is highly desirable.
• Flexible on location—UK-based or EU-based candidates are welcome.
• Energetic, personable, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Flexible working style and the ability to partner effectively with internal teams, including legal, credit, treasury, and trading, to support deal execution.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders effectively.
• Excellent relationship building skills.
