Head Chef/Higher Level Catering Supervisor

We have a position available for a senior catering supervisor to join our team at Wansbeck hospital.
The successful candidate will support the catering superintendent and facilities manager by providing a high level of supervision to the catering staff working in the kitchen, restaurant, and coffee shop.
As part of this role, you will be required to maintain the standards of cleanliness as specified throughout the work areas, by means of approved methods.
Please note that it is a requirement of NHFML that all successful applicants pay for their own DBS certificate, if a DBS check is required for the post. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first monthly pay.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have previous supervisory experience in a catering environment and will have an excellent understanding of COSHH and HACCP regulations.
You should be able to prioritise your own workload and have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages.
You should have a good understanding of HR procedures, including recruitment and selection, completion of staff appraisals and training, and be comfortable having difficult conversations with staff members to ensure that our service levels are met.
Job responsibilities
1. To provide a high quality catering service for patients, staff, and visitors trust-wide.
2. To maintain a high standard service and quality of food and beverages, including standards of hygiene, HACCP, COSHH and adherence to all Trust policies.
3. Responsible for simple preparation, cooking and dispatch of all types of meals, whether fresh, frozen, or chilled.
4. To act as working supervisor assisting with all catering duties and to assist in the co-ordination of the Catering Services to the Soft Services Facilities Manager. Checking and accounting for cash and vouchers, keeping of records and the continuous update of the Function Diary.
5. Oversee the replenishing and maintenance of automatic vending machines. Must have a sound knowledge of stock control procedures.
6. To be flexible in working arrangements and undertake any other duties as may be required. To be willing to undertake training that is deemed necessary by the Catering Superintendent /Hotel Services Officer.
7. Fully effective and efficient deployment of staff.
8. Administration of Staff Rostering system.
9. Undertake Return to Work meetings with staff following sickness absence.
10. Successful and effective programme of duties associated with staff management such as administration, training and development, appraisal, counseling.
11. The checking and upkeep of all catering equipment and the maintenance of service/report schedules.
12. To carry out on the job training to staff to ensure correct methods and working practices. To give sufficient close supervision and training to new staff until the required standard of work is achieved.
13. To respond to low level complaints in an effective and professional manner to a successful resolution.
14. To ensure that appraisals and statutory and mandatory training are complete in their designated staff group.
15. To regularly complete quality control sheets in accordance with quality control procedures.
16. To assist staff in recording incidents via the Datix system.

Qualifications
* General Education
* City and Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, or NVQ Level 3, or have equivalent experience in large scale catering.
* Level 3 (Intermediate) Food Safety Certificate
* Supervisory or Management training
* ECDL certificate.
