Job Description: We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry with expertise in learning disabilities to join our esteemed team. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a crucial role in providing expert psychiatric care to elderly patients with learning disabilities within inpatient or outpatient settings. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of older adults with complex mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Providing expert clinical leadership and psychiatric expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of elderly patients with learning disabilities and mental health disorders.
2. Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and formulating individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practice and clinical guidelines.
3. Providing psychiatric interventions, including medication management and psychotherapy, tailored to the needs of elderly patients with learning disabilities.
4. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, including learning disability nurses, psychologists, and social workers, to ensure integrated and holistic care for patients.
5. Participating in clinical governance activities, service development initiatives, and research projects to enhance the quality of care provided.
Requirements:
6. Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice in the UK.
7. Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych or FRCPsych) or equivalent qualification.
8. Substantial experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist with a focus on old age psychiatry and learning disabilities.
9. Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
10. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with elderly patients, individuals with learning disabilities, families, and colleagues.
11. Commitment to continuous professional development and keeping abreast of developments in old age psychiatry and learning disabilities.
