Join our dynamic Nature team as a Consultant Ecologist in our offices located in Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Croydon, Cambridge, Basingstoke, Birmingham, or Nottingham (other locations considered), with a flexible hybrid working model. At AECOM, we lead in innovation, delivering a diverse portfolio of ecology programs and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients.
Currently, we are engaged in a wide range of projects, notably in the power and renewables, infrastructure, environment, and transport sectors. We collaborate with other technical disciplines such as landscape, GIS, engineering, sustainability, and drainage. Our recent projects include some of the largest solar farms in the UK, a cable tunnel beneath the River Thames, electricity network upgrades in Kent and Suffolk, habitats regulations assessments for local authorities, and masterplanning for residential developments.
Depending on your interests and skills, you will have opportunities to support various areas such as innovative species and habitats surveys, work winning, and Biodiversity Net Gain mentoring. Here’s what you’ll do:
* Participate in the health, safety, and well-being culture of the team;
* Support liaison with project managers and clients on ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary projects;
* Organise and conduct desk studies and field surveys for habitats, botanical species, and protected species;
* Assist in managing the technical and financial performance of ecological projects to meet budgets and deadlines;
* Support analysis, evaluation, interpretation, and presentation of ecological data, including report writing and mitigation strategy design;
* Perform the role of an Ecological Clerk of Works on construction projects;
* Communicate effectively with line managers, team members, and clients;
* Ensure compliance with internal procedures related to health, safety, and technical quality, including self-checks of work.

Qualifications
What we’re looking for:
* Experience in ecology-related roles in public or private sectors;
* Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and survey methodologies, membership of a professional body like CIEEM preferred;
* Skills in botanical identification and protected species surveys;
* Flexibility to work variable hours and travel;
* Report writing experience.
