We are looking for an AutoCAD Designer to join our friendly and dynamic shop development team here at Waterstones. This role can be homebased but will include national travel. In this role you will be required to produce detailed technical drawings for new bookshops, refits of existing stores and new display equipment.
What you will be doing
* Produce detailed technical drawings for new shops, refits and new display equipment
* Oversee new shop approvals processes with landlords and third parties
* Manage local authority approvals e.g. building warrants, planning consents etc.
* Work closely with the Shop Design manager to interpret briefs and develop detailed elements from initial concept proposals.
* Produce detailed technical drawings for specific areas of the bookshop eg, counter spaces, window display areas, café counters including pipe and electrical runs
* Management of overlayed drawing layers supplied by external parties e.g. HVAC, Lighting
* Support with production of internal and external design approval packs
* To visit and assist with the scoping of shops to include some measurement surveying and appraising counterproposals to highlight any potential issues
* Continued adjustment and updating of plans throughout planning and build phases
* Provide support for the production and upkeep of Waterstones Design Guide
* General administration around sharing and archiving of project plans
What we need from you
* Proven technical drawing experience within the construction industry, ideally working within a retail environment
* Ideally minimum 5 years of experience
* In depth experience of Autodesk AutoCAD, advanced user
* Experience of using 3d design software e.g. Rhino, Sketchup / Vray preferable
* UK driving license preferable

* Excellent communication and presentation skills – essential that work is presented in a clear and visually appealing way and in a confident manner
* Excellent team worker who will proactively provide support to colleagues
* Keen eye for detail
* Ability to work under pressure, enjoy the challenge of problem solving and keen to find new ways to improve processes and ways of working
* Willingness to travel
* Capable of working with external parties such as main contractors, landlords/ shopping centres, local authorities and third-party specialists e.g. H&S, QS, CDM etc and equipment suppliers
