University residences provide accommodation to approximately 5,500 students across the university. We are committed to providing a professional, customer focused service to a wide range of people.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and reliable individual, responsible for delivering an efficient and effective maintenance service on a student residences site.
Part time, open-ended post, 25 hours per week, typically Monday - Friday 5 hours per day. Shifts are worked between 8.00am - 6.00pm on a rota basis.

Starting Salary: £12.45 per hour (£22,728 per annum (Grade 2).
This role is based on Campus.

Job Description
Main Duties
* To conduct minor repairs and report any major repairs to site management and Estates Divisions. To operate under safe working practices.
* To maintain records of on-going maintenance problems, particularly in relation to planned maintenance issues. To follow up any action required, escalate as necessary, and advise the customer as appropriate.
* To move furniture, stores, furnishings and refuse etc.
* To read gas and electric meters and record readings where applicable.
* To lock/unlock premises as required.
* To maintain the presentation and safety of all external areas. To sweep and clear all roadways and pathways, using appropriate equipment as required. Keep the site litter and debris free.
* To keep clean all bin areas and move bins as required.
* To collect and dispose of refuse.
* To undertake checks of safety and fire alarms, evacuation routes, emergency lighting, fire doors and equipment, maintaining accurate records of checks/inspections/tests and/or work completed or raised.
* To participate in legionella flushing and portable appliance testing procedures maintain accurate records as required.
* To deliver and issue mail and keys.
* To maintain paintwork as directed.
* To be aware of security issues on site, maintaining contact with the residences team through radio transmission.
* To ensure the effective reporting of maintenance issues or hazards, identified on site, during day-to-day operations.
* To drive University vehicles and make deliveries as required.
* To prepare rooms for meetings, conference and events etc.
* To attend and actively participate in all basic training as identified in the Training Matrix.
* To identify your personal training needs in conjunction with your manager, ensuring that learning is transferred to the workplace.
* To abide by university policies on Health and Safety.
* To ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of equality and diversity, data protection, copyright and licensing, security, financial and other University policies, procedures and codes as appropriate.
* To provide a service to customers during arrivals/departures, conferences and other busy periods which may be within other residences and involve working additional hours.
* You may be asked to perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role.
Essential Criteria
* Experience of and/or ability to carry out general repairs in a professional/commercial environment.
* Experience of painting.
* Experience of communicating information both orally and in writing, to a wide range of people.
* Experience of working in a customer focused environment with an ability to respond to customer needs in a polite and courteous manner adapting to their requirements accordingly.
* Evidence of numeric skills including basic arithmetic.
* Proven ability to follow instructions and procedures.
* Experience of undertaking manual handling activities.
* A basic understanding of electrical safety, heating and plumbing systems.
* A basic understanding of workplace safety hazards.
* A valid, full, Group B driving licence.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
* Evidence of ability to use email and internet-based applications.
* Proven ability to speak Welsh or willingness to learn.

CAMPUS SERVICES INFORMATION
Campus Services provides a range of professional support services to students, staff and visitors at Cardiff University.
Residences manages accommodation places for approximately 5,500 students, both catered and self-catered.
In terms of catering, there are cafés and restaurants conveniently located across university campuses, in addition to a delivered hospitality service.
Cardiff University Sport exists to provide students and staff with a balanced, high quality and integrated sport service which meets the needs of a broad range of users.
The Nursery offers facilities for children aged between 10 weeks and 5 years and is divided into sections appropriate to the ages and development of the children.
Both residential and catering facilities are utilised for conferences and functions during the University’s vacation periods. A purpose built and designed conference centre and conference facility is also available throughout the year.
The Campus Services operation is supported by its own central administration functions covering the allocation of residences, human resource and quality, purchasing, facilities, finance, and general administration.
