Join our team as an Automation Engineer and play a pivotal role in developing bespoke automation solutions that drive our manufacturing excellence. You'll engage in a diverse range of engineering disciplines, from mechanical design to electrical systems and robotics programming. We welcome candidates with varying levels of experience, prioritizing enthusiasm, a strong theoretical foundation, and a genuine desire to learn and contribute.
Mechanical Engineering
Most projects begin with mechanical design, where concepts are modeled in Fusion 360 and presented with costings for approval. Once approved, detailed designs are created, with parts manufactured in our well-equipped tool room.
Key skills:
* 3D modeling (Fusion 360) and drafting for manufacture (GD&T)
* Basic FEA for design validation
* Understanding of gears, belts, and motion components
* Motion calculations (e.g., motor torque and speed)
* Strong workshop skills —we build our own machines.
Electrical Engineering
We adhere to ISO standards and the inherent safe design approach. You'll become familiar with risk assessments, safety control systems, and the design of electrical panels, including power supply and circuit protection.
Key skills:
* Exposure to electrical CAD software
* Willingness to learn and apply CE marking, PUWER, and safety standards
* Experience with panel wiring and crimping
Software & Robotics
Rutland Plastics is an early adopter of collaborative robots (Cobots), which are central to our automation strategy. You'll develop expertise in Cobots, Industrial robots, PLC programming and fieldbus technologies (e.g., Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP) to integrate devices.
Entry Requirements
We seek candidates with a relevant engineering degree and a strong theoretical foundation. The role demands problem-solving skills, creativity, and adaptability to deliver automation solutions efficiently.
