Consultant Radiologist with interest in Head & Neck Imaging
An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Radiologist to join the existing team of 50 Consultants to provide specialist head & neck imaging in addition to general radiology or neuroradiology specialist services. This is an additional post commencing at a time of significant and exciting developments within the trust, to support expansion of imaging capacity in support of far-reaching changes to Urgent & Emergency Care provision at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.
The post will be a combination of general radiology (including general on-call, inpatient and out-patient CT, ultrasound, and plain-film reporting) or neuroradiology (including neuroradiology on call, acute and non-acute neuroradiology imaging, and benign and oncological MDT work). Head & Neck subspecialty interest would support the specialist work of the ENT and Maxillofacial departments, and will involve neck ultrasound and interventions including sialography, ultrasound guided biopsies and FNA, and CT and MRI neck reporting. The post holder will contribute to the Head & Neck and Thyroid MDT and to the one stop head and neck ultrasound clinic.
Main duties of the job
The post is to share responsibility for provision of a comprehensive diagnostic General (or Neuroradiology) and Head & Neck radiology service with the existing cohort of radiology consultants. The job plan will encompass both specialist and general/neuro work within the job plan.
Specialist work for ENT and Maxillofacial department will involve neck ultrasound and interventions including sialography, guided biopsies and FNA, CT and MRI neck reporting, CT and MRI head reporting. The post holder will contribute to the Head & Neck and Thyroid MDT and to the one stop head and neck ultrasound clinic. General clinical duties include the reporting, vetting and prioritisation of imaging requests, attending clinical-radiological meetings, and providing on-call services for diagnostic radiology.
Successful applicants would be expected to contribute to the diagnostic radiology service as well as partake in audit, teaching, research, and MDT meetings.
Person Specification
* Full GMC registration.
* Fellowship Royal College of Radiologists (or equivalent).
* CCT in radiology and entry on Specialist Register (or expected within 6 months of interview).
* MD, PhD or other postgraduate degree.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in radiology.
* Experience in Head & Neck imaging
* Experience in US / CT guided Biopsy
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on full range of both emergency and routine radiological situations
* Ability to offer expert opinion on full range of standard diagnostic neuroradiological imaging
* Ability to support neuroradiology MDT work in a cancer and tertiary surgical centre
* Ability to supervise radiology STRs across a broad range of General (or Neuro) and Head & Neck Radiology.
* Willing to participate in radiology on-call rota
* Experience in Sialography
* Further sub-specialist /fellowship training.
* Demonstrable evidence of substantial experience / training in U/S biopsy and CT guided biopsy.
Research & clinical audit
