Weare inviting applicants to join our busy but welcoming Congenital Cardiologyteam as a senior Clinical Fellow for a period of 12 months based at LeedsGeneral Infirmary in West Yorkshire.
Weare looking for candidates who have a CCT in Cardiology (or equivalent) or arefinishing their Specialty training and who have undergone subspecialty trainingin Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) and/or subspecialty training inadvanced imaging (CMR/CT) who wish to develop higher skills in congenitalcardiac MRI.

TheLeeds General Infirmary is a large tertiary cardiology centre with all thefacilities which would be expected in such a centre. Our ACHD patients are housed alongsidegeneral adult cardiology and cardiac surgery patients in a general cardiology /cardiac surgery ward equipped with telemetry facilities and 4 x Level 2 Highdependency beds. In addition, there isan 18 bedded acute cardiology admissions ward, a ten bedded acute cardiac careunit, and a day case facility with 22 beds and 6 chairs. Our cardiac surgical patients are housed inthe adult cardiac intensive care unit with up to 18 beds.
Main duties of the job
Thecandidate will be expected to participate in the CMR rota for our clinicallists that will encompass both paediatric and adult CHD patients. They will bealso expected to help in the preparation for our weekly MDT and participateactively in the review of the scans with our clinical team.
Dependingon the candidate career profile and wishes, opportunities to join the clinicaldepartment activity (ward rounds, outpatient clinics) or exposure to otherimaging modalities (TOE) will be considered.
Thedepartment is also heavily involved in 3D modelling and use of VR/AR to assistin the preparation of complex cases. Depending on the candidate proficiency,including technical skills, there will be opportunities for the successfulcandidate to receive training in this area and participate actively.

The post is suitable for Specialty Trainees in Cardiology who intend to specialise in Congenital Heart Disease imaging sub-specialty or who have already commenced training in general cardiology and/or cross-sectional imaging and wish to gain more sub-specialty experience in Cardiac MRI (CMR).
The ideal candidate would have completed a CCT in Cardiology or be a Consultant at the start of their career looking for sub-speciality experience in congenital CMR imaging.
The post is not a clinical research fellowship but research opportunities are expected to arise and will be promoted depending on the successful candidate progression through the time of the fellowship.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Our cardiac surgical patients are housed in the adult cardiac intensive care unit with up to 18 beds.
Four consultants (2 ACHD and 2 paediatric cardiology) run the congenital cardiac MRI service and more than that 900 scans per year are performed. Recent developments include routine use of MRI-based 3D models for interventional and surgical planning, as well as clinical use of 4D cines & flow techniques. Virtual & augmented reality are also part of the routine clinical service as work-up for complex procedures.
Patients have access to all aspects of non-invasive cardiology including cardio-pulmonary exercise testing, advanced echo and complex cardiac CT. The LGI has 6 cardiac catheter labs shared with general adult cardiology, including 1 bi-plane lab, as well as a dedicated hybrid catheter lab for congenital cases.
Specialist ACHD clinics run daily and there are sub-specialty clinics for ACHD patients who are pregnant or planning pregnancy, intervention, those with pacemakers and ICDs, pulmonary hypertension, heart failure and transition. Integral to the service is a team of dedicated specialist ACHD nurses. We have good links with the pulmonary hypertension service in Sheffield, and the national cardiac transplantation service.
