Consultant Cardiologist (Electrophysiology and Devices)
This post is for a substantive appointment of a Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in invasive electrophysiology and Cardiac Devices. The appointee will be expected to be proficient in the management of all arrhythmia patients, ablation for SVT and AF, and the implantation and follow-up of all Cardiac Device patients.
Sub-speciality interests would be encouraged particularly in the areas of inherited cardiac conditions, adult congenital heart disease ablation or ablation of ventricular tachycardia.
Main Duties of the Job
The appointee will be expected to work flexibly to cover clinical sessions. Device and EP sessions may be performed as dual lists with established consultants.
There is an on-call commitment within this post on a 1 in 13 basis. This involves a week of category B on-call for EP and device issues.

The job plan is planned as a 12 PA job.
The timetable is flexible and will be adjusted to suit the needs of the appointee, recognising the varying associated interests.
Included in the SPAs are monthly grand round/case presentations and a monthly audit half day. Other commitments include monthly division meetings and weekly seminars for junior staff and ECG meetings.

Qualifications
* MRCP (UK) Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months).
* Postgraduate thesis.
Research Experience
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
* Peer reviewed publications.
* Publications in high impact journals.

* Ability to work in a team, work flexibly with good interpersonal skills.
* Enquiring, critical approach to work, with a caring attitude to patients.
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies.

Teaching Experience
* Experience of supervising Tier 1 doctors.
* Ability to teach clinical and operative skills.
* Level 1 accreditation as an Educational Supervisor.
* Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates.
* Experience of supervising registrars.
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
Clinical Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Cardiology.
* Experience of all aspects of invasive EP and ablation.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of EP and device problems, both emergency and elective.
* Independent implanter of pacemakers and ICDs (CRT optional).
* Independent (1st) operator for EP/ablation cases for SVT and AF.
* Subspecialty experience and interests: ACHD ablation, Ablation of structural heart VT, Inherited cardiac conditions with emphasis on channelopathies.
Management and Administrative Experience
* Ability to contribute to the efficient and smooth running of a specialist service.
* Ability to organise and manage out-patient priorities and procedure waiting lists.
* Ability to manage and lead a cardiology team.
* Ability to manage and lead a specialist unit, cardiology directorate and working parties as appropriate.
* Experience of audit management.
