This post isproviding a specialist SLT service to a designated caseload of children with complex speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) attending special school in Harrow. They will also carry a small mainstream schools caseload. They will be expected to manage their own caseload, working alongside teaching staff to ensure specialist therapy programmes and education plans are in place for the children under their care. They will be expected to work collaboratively with children/young people (CYP), parents/ carers and with colleagues in Health, Education and Social Services.

To manage a specialist caseload of school agedchildren with complex SLCN in specialschooland a small number of mainstream schools. In this post you will have the opportunity to develop skills in working with eating, drinking and swallowing (EDS) difficulties.
Thisincludes:
• Gainingappropriate consent
• Comprehensive assessment and differential diagnosis of individual children with diverse and complex presentations using a range of specialist assessments/techniques
• Planning,deliveringand evaluating specialist treatmentprogrammes
• Referring on to other services/professionals asappropriate includingEPS, CAMHS, OT
• Demonstrating skills in dealing with complex issues to generateappropriate strategiesfor caseloadmanagement
• Negotiatingwith CYP parents/carers, and others around individual case management
• Writingreports reflecting specialist knowledge of school age children andprovidingspecific advice for statutory assessment of special educationalneeds.
