Job Description:
As Investor and Client Relations Lead, you will deliver critical support to some of the UK’s most promising climate-focused ventures as they build towards securing a Series A investment. As a key hire of the newly established £5m Research England-funded Climate Scaling Collaborative project, you will work with early-stage founders to develop and support the implementation of strategies that maximise investment readiness. You will also lead on establishing a UK-wide network of climate-focused venture capital investors, corporate partners, and Experts in Residence aimed at informing, guiding, and collaborating with the ventures during this critical stage of growth.
Working as part of the team, this pioneering initiative is a UK-wide partnership between Imperial and the universities of Cranfield, Derby, Exeter, Leeds, and Nottingham. Focused on IP-rich university start-ups and spinouts, you will have the opportunity to use and develop your experience in the field of VC fundraising and corporate engagement while driving the incubation of over 60 early-stage deeptech ventures.
Reporting to the Head of Investment Services and working as an integral part of the Enterprise Lab team, you'll play a key role in delivering the investment and partnership support climate ventures need to scale. This is a brand-new role in a new team. It will be your job from the outset to take a strategic view of the project and work independently to devise multiple streams of activity that will increase the chances of climate-focused ventures securing VC Series A investment.
You will have the autonomy to shape your contribution, using your experience and judgment throughout the project to contribute to the mission of the Climate Scaling Collaborative. We’d love you to be a self-starter, capable of setting and delivering your own goals while collaborating with multiple stakeholders to deliver great outcomes for the ventures at the heart of the project.
These activities will include building and maintaining a network of climate-focused venture capital investors and corporate partners across the UK, working alongside Experts in Residence to evaluate commercial partnership strategies and investor readiness, helping ventures to navigate the investment process, and building strong investment materials and pitches. We’d also like you to deliver investor showcases and networking opportunities to maximise engagement between ventures, investors, and corporate partners.
Minimum Requirements:
* Excellent knowledge of VC investment processes and the UK investment ecosystem
* Understanding of the challenges faced by deep tech innovators as they scale, ideally within the sectors of climate and sustainability
* Experience in business development, partnerships, consulting, or similar client-facing activities
* A proven ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, from founders to investors to build trust and secure engagement.
* Strong, independently driven delivery focus, with the ability to manage multiple programme initiatives to completion through well-developed organisation, coordination, and facilitation skills
* A unique opportunity to work at the interface of deeptech climate startup incubation, academia, venture capital investment, and corporate partnerships
* A lead role in delivering a transformative initiative in UK climate innovation from within a world-leading science and technology university.
* The opportunity to shape your own role, delivering a new project with the support of two highly experienced and knowledgeable teams.
