EDS is responsible for cross-government coordination, collective agreement, policy advice, and legislation across economic and domestic policy. The Strategy and Analysis team is small and agile. It plays a key role in supporting delivery of the priorities of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Secretary. The team has a dual role in both supporting the Government's response to the most pressing cross-cutting issues of the day, as well as building up our forward-looking work, considering policy issues for the medium and long-term. Alongside our impactful, challenging work we are focused on making everyones time in the team as enjoyable, inclusive and developmental as possible. Ongoing and recent work in the team has included: Overseeing cross-government preparations for the General Election; Co-ordinating cross-department work on the biggest system challenges facing the UK; Leading cross-government work on public sector pay and industrial disputes; Advising and supporting the implementation of Machinery of Government changes; Policy development work on levelling up, AI, smokefree generation and other areas; Supporting the Cabinet Secretarys bi-annual stocktakes. Job description Portfolios across the team are generally flexible and we adapt the work of the team to meet the priorities of the moment. You should expect, however, to be able to build expertise in some policy areas as you work on projects for extended periods of time. All roles at SEO will involve: Drafting high quality written advice and papers to support senior decision making. This will include commissioning and working with colleagues across Government to seek inputs. You will engage critically with those inputs, applying a clear understanding of the wider political landscape to your work. Convening colleagues from across Government, setting out our objectives, seeking support, and brokering agreement between working level colleagues. Managing a number of concurrent projects, or a single project with multiple strands. You will be responsible for tracking progress of projects, and ensuring we deliver a timely service. Building and maintaining a strong and trusted network across EDS, Cabinet Office, and across departments to support delivery. Criteria Essential skills and experience: It is important in your application and interview that you provide evidence and examples of proven experience in each of the following: Strong interpersonal skills - Candidates will need to show experience in building and maintaining effective relationships, with a proven ability to engage persuasively. Strong drafting and written communication skills - Candidates should be able to show they have strong skills in assimilating a wide range of information, including by drawing on the bigger picture (e.g. economic, political and social context), to produce high quality concise written briefing. Examples could include Ministerial or Senior Official written submissions or briefings, or any work that describes complex issues clearly and concisely for decision-makers. Excellent Organisational Skills - Candidates will need to possess excellent organisational skills and a strong ability to prioritise and manage their time in order to deliver on projects. Flexibility and resilience - Experience of working in environments where there are competing priorities, and a fast-changing situation. Desirable criteria: Data analysis and presentation skills - The ability to use data to inform and support arguments, and to translate data into visual aids or build it into written communication.
