An exciting opportunity to join AWE as our new Director of Environment and Sustainability.
The successful candidate will be accountable for owning the AWE PLC strategy for Environment and Sustainability and will be responsible for developing the Environment and Sustainability vision, strategy, policy and standards for the business in line with the overall business strategy through effective collaboration with a range of senior leaders and ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory and business requirements.
We are looking for someone to work with our Board on Environment and Sustainability across AWE & provide leadership to the Environment and Sustainability sub-function, with associated organisational structure and arrangements to support it.
To ensure effective carbon reduction and sustainability strategies are developed and implemented across the Enterprise, driving organisational performance against targets, ensuring multiple stakeholder compliance is met and ensuring leadership engagement.
Tier 2 lead across the business for all environment and sustainability activities and the primary interface with the Environment Agency regulator.
The role holder will build a team ensuring we have a strategic workforce plan having identified current and future capability needs in Environment and Sustainability, aligned to industry with the aim of developing a carbon footprint and net-zero and sustainability strategy, governance and reporting, and the development of sustainable products and solutions.
They will be accountable to the Executive Director & manage all AWE Environment and Sustainability programme requirements.
Experience required:
* Planning and Sustainability Appraisal/Environmental Impact Assessment, Design for Environment/BREEAM, Circular Economy, Climate Resilience, Natural Capital, Sustainable Procurement, Social Value, Life Cycle Analysis and Sustainability Training/Culture & Behaviours.
* Tier 2 environment and sustainability Leadership.
* Previous experience in working with the Environment Agency regulator.
Preferable qualifications:
* Chartered Environmentalist (Energy Institute) and/or a member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) (practitioner).
Location: Reading / Basingstoke area with free onsite parking.
