Description Main Purpose of the Role The Wraparound Play Leader at Mawnan CE VA Primary School will be responsible for providing a caring, secure, and enriching environment for children after the school day. The role is crucial in supporting the school's vision of enabling every child to "experience life in all its fullness now and in the future." The Play Leader will facilitate a range of play-based activities and opportunities that align with the school's commitment to nurturing the whole child and allowing them to "shine brightly." Key Responsibilities and Duties Providing a Caring and Secure Environment ● Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for children attending the after-school club ● Ensure the safety and well-being of all children through effective supervision and care ● Organise, resources and lead a variety of engaging play activities, both indoors and outdoors, that cater to the diverse ages, interests and needs of the children ● Provide individual attention and support to children as needed, responding to their emotional and social needs ● Be responsible for setting and tidying up with care and cleanliness ● Establish rules and routines that align with the school’s positive promotion and management of children’s behaviour. Facilitating Play and Learning Opportunities ● Develop and implement a programme of enriching play-based activities that promote the children's physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development ● Consult with children to involve them in the planning and organisation of activities, fostering a sense of ownership and engagement ● Support children's learning through play, scaffolding their exploration and discovery ● Set up the play space, including moving furniture and equipment, to create an inviting and stimulating environment Maintaining High Standards of Care and Professionalism ● Ensure that all snack times and other routines meet high standards of hygiene and health and safety ● Establish and maintain positive relationships with children and their families, serving as a friendly and approachable point of contact ● Work collaboratively with colleagues, sharing ideas, and supporting each other in the preparation of resources and planning of activities ● Demonstrate adaptability, initiative, and a willingness to learn and grow in the role Safeguarding and Welfare ● Prioritise the safeguarding and welfare of all children, adhering to the school's child protection policies and procedures ● Prioritise safety and keep children safe. Minimise risk with the club environment and conduct risk assessments. ● Provide first aid as needed and be accountable for the children's whereabouts and safety at all times ● Report any concerns or issues related to the children's well-being to the designated safeguarding lead Skills, Competencies and Qualifications ● Effective administrative skills and the ability to manage bookings and payments ● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and colleagues ● Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and work on own initiative ● Creativity and imagination to design and implement a diverse range of play-based activities ● Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the holistic development of primary-aged children ● Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the changing needs and interests of the children ● Commitment to promoting the school's vision and values, and contributing to the wider life and ethos of the school community ● Good standard of practical knowledge, skills and experience of working with children ● Experience of managing budgets and working to deadlines ● Qualified to GCSE level C or above (or equivalent qualification) in literacy and numeracy. ● Recognised childcare qualification (NVQ 3 or equivalent) ● A current first aid certificate and food handling qualification or a willingness to undertake this training. The After School Play Leader will be encouraged and supported to engage in relevant training and learning opportunities, both within the school and through external providers. This may include workshops on child development, behaviour management, activity planning, and first aid, among others. The school will also provide opportunities for the Play Leader to contribute to the school's self-evaluation and improvement planning, further developing their leadership skills and understanding of the primary education sector.
