We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and highly motivated Lab Manager to join an exciting new business venture focused on applying the company’s proprietary gene silencing platform to the development of novel human therapeutics. Our technology facilitates programmable, tunable, stable and specific silencing activity that differentiates it from alternative gene editing or gene regulation approaches, and enables production of programmable, next-generation advanced therapies, addressing many current limitations. The successful candidate will be joining a multidisciplinary team of computational and experimental biologists. The post is ideal for a dynamic individual looking to be part of a cutting-edge research program that will also have real impact on patients’ lives. Due to the early-stage nature of the company, it is imperative to have a pragmatic, can-do, collaborative approach. The role will manage all aspects of laboratory services to ensure they are fully operational and compliant with all relevant safety regulations and standards. You will be responsible for the following: Being the primary point of contact for all laboratory operations, equipment servicing, waste management, emergency (out-of-hours response), and delivering induction training. Conducting regular safety inspections and audits, enforcing safety standards to maintain excellent laboratory conditions. Coordinating the development, implementation and documentation of health and safety policies, systems of work, and procedures. Providing regular reports to stakeholders and senior management on relevant health and safety activities. Building and maintaining good relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., landlords, engineers, suppliers, regulators). Working with procurement to ensure best value, overseeing the ordering of equipment, consumables, and reagents for the lab. Maintaining accurate inventories of various assets. Arranging service contracts and engineers’ visits, working closely with scientists and equipment superusers. Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to lab equipment and services. Skills Essential Experience working in a busy molecular and cellular biology research lab environment, with colleagues of diverse skillsets and experience levels. A pragmatic, people-centric way of working and ability to cope with complex issues. Proven diplomacy skills with diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders. Prior track record of managing key laboratory processes – facilities maintenance, reagent ordering, inventory management, equipment maintenance and servicing, equipment usage scheduling. Strong knowledge of, and orientation towards use of IT tools – e.g. automated ordering, ELN/LIMS. Working knowledge of molecular and cellular biology techniques and processes, to facilitate role. Experience with developing and implementing health and safety processes (e.g. GM/COSHH risk assessment) and procedures, including interacting with HSE. Demonstrate experience in identifying and mitigating risks to health and safety. A systematic, troubleshooting mindset and flexibility in approach, with exceptional attention to detail. Comfortable operating autonomously once goals and objectives are set. Desirable Track record of lab establishment and operational design Experience supporting provision of wet-lab training Familiarity with HTA regulations Prior development of standard protocols and templates for data recording Basic knowledge of laboratory automation approaches, with ability to interact and support colleagues as required Qualifications / Profile BSc / MSc. with industry experience (BSc/MSc 3-5yr) Strong communication skills with proven ability to relay information effectively and efficiently, both to computational and experimental scientists Team-orientation toward collaboration and mutual success Ability to ensure reproducible and transferable work through use of appropriate procedures and documentation This role will initially be a 12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension.
