Managing Quantity Surveyor
Central Scotland
An opportunity has arisen for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join the team at Morrison Construction. The Managing Quantity Surveyor will have line management responsibility for a number of Senior Surveyors, Surveyors, Graduates and Trainee Surveyors.
Ideally, you will based in or around the Central Belt and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.
What you will be doing:
1. Participate in creating a safe working environment.
2. Act as Project Commercial Lead in the administration of contracts.
3. Develop and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders.
4. Produce Subcontract documentation including negotiation of terms and conditions, prices and programme.
5. Management of subcontract works packages including interim assessments of the amount due and subsequent change management.
6. Produce and issue all commercial notices, to both the Client and Subcontractors, as required by the form of contract.
7. Manage change in a timely manner in accordance with the form of contract, including the production and submission of Compensation Event Quotations.
8. Produce, submit, and agree monthly applications, to the Client, in accordance with the form of contract.
9. Liaise with operational and engineering staff to ensure site records are kept to the standard required.
10. Produce detailed monthly reports and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR) as required by the business unit or project.
11. Produce and maintain a detailed ‘Cost Plan’, tracking and forecasting expenditure, including detailed schedules of Subcontractor ‘liabilities’ and use of Oracle based cost analyses.
12. Produce and maintain accurate cost and value forecasts on a monthly basis
13. Produce and maintain accurate cash flow forecasts on a monthly basis.
14. Work with the Project Managers to ensure accurate planning of expenditure.
15. Support the Project Managers and others to identify, quantify and mitigate risks to cost and value.
16. Interpret and critically evaluate expenditure reports produced by internal cost systems.
17. Attend progress and risk reduction meetings with the client and subcontractors.
18. Apply the principles of ‘Doing the right thing’ in maximising value and profit.
19. Responsible for key decision making relating to commercial matters alongside the senior operational team.
20. Management and development of the commercial team to ensure they reach their potential and support their wellbeing.
21. Be available to assist estimating and bid teams with contractual expertise.
About You:
22. Strong appreciation of standard forms of contract.
23. Advanced IT skills including Excel, Word & Contractual and Cost Management Systems (CEMAR, Oracle).
24. Excellent stakeholder management and communication capabilities.
25. Solid knowledge of construction processes.
26. First class time and outcome management skills.
27. Strong leadership and management expertise proven track record of developing individuals.
28. Track record of negotiation and final account settlement.
