As part of the Flood and Coastal Risk Management directorate you’ll represent the Data Analysis and Reporting Team (DART) engaging across the business to transform performance data into business, commercial and programme information with a focus on capital delivery. There may be requirement for some line management responsibilities, this will be discussed at interview.
Data Analyst key skills:
* Database management, dashboard development and/or data analysis and experience using information to enable informed decisions.
* Research and robust problem-solving skills, along with a strong familiarity with data warehousing, data mining and data mapping.
* Handling large amounts of data, which is imported to and exported from the team’s data warehouse.
* Analysing data, presenting findings in the form of reports, dashboards and spoken communications.
* Strong experience in ETL, preference would be FME, however FME experience is not critical.
* MS SQL Server, Power Bi; experience of APIs, Python and other programming languages.
* Managing the data model in the data warehouse, ensuring data processing is kept efficient.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
DART sits within Flood and Coastal Risk Management. We deliver dashboarding and data management services on a broad range of business areas. The team is a blend of Environment Agency and consultants fulfilling the roles of Data Analyst, Business Analyst, and service desk analysts. We have cultivated a culture of collaboration within the team and have an excellent breadth of skills and experience for joiners to learn from.
Experience/skills Required
The role is diverse, challenging, fast-paced and changeable. Effective communication skills and understanding of your audience is essential.
Key Capabilities/Experience:
* Proficient in data analysis (cleaning, processing, and visualising data) using e.g. Excel, Python, R, or other software.
* Strong problem-solving skills.
* Delivering business information using data analytics.
* Using SQL or other database querying languages.
* Using BI application(s) e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Qlik.
* Data warehousing and business intelligence platforms.
* Using APIs (Python preferable).
* Creating and maintaining ETL processes (FME preferable).
