Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Senior Clinical Pharmacist to manage our clinical pharmacy service provided to the acute medical admission wards and the Emergency Department (ED) at York Hospital.
Reporting to the Principal Pharmacist for Medicine (Acute & Frailty), you will be supported to implement systems to improve the safe prescribing and transfer of care of acutely admitted medical patients. While based in York, we encourage cross-site collaboration with counterparts at our Scarborough site to ensure a consistent service across the Trust.
Supported by a team of specialist and rotational pharmacists plus medicines management technicians and assistants, you will work at a senior level and play an influential role in the medical patient admission care pathway. You will use proven clinical skills to help deliver a high-quality patient-focused clinical pharmacy service with the scope to innovate, audit, and make quality improvements to our processes.
We welcome interest from pharmacists from all backgrounds but you must hold a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy to Diploma level and be an Independent Prescriber (or working towards this).
Experience of effective engagement with patients, the wider MDT and pharmacy team members is vital for this post. The combination of responsibilities within this role presents an ideal opportunity to develop both your clinical and leadership skills.
Main duties of the job
Through demonstrating competence in technology and improvement, you will review and monitor medication usage for the ED and the acute admission units, including the management of the Omnicell stock cabinets in ED.
Ensuring the safe & secure handling of medicines, you will advise on compliance to formulary guidance, improve prescribing processes and address day-to-day medication queries, stock issues, and efficiencies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as a strong commitment to education and training of junior pharmacists will be required to support and develop the service.

Person specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
* Degree in pharmacy (Masters or equivalent)
* Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Continuous Professional Development to meet the requirements of the GPhC
* Postgraduate qualification in pharmacy at least to Diploma/MSc level, relevant to post or equivalent experience
* Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain or specialist pharmacist group
* Management training
Experience & Knowledge Required
* Broad post registration experience at least part of which must be of hospital pharmacy
* Knowledge of Medicines & Pharmacy Legislation, professional ethics, Health & Safety and the wider Health Service
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance, Medicines Optimisation, Patient Safety, Risk Management, NICE guidance, Shared Care Guidelines, and the development agenda relevant to the post
* Knowledge of theoretical and practical issues, including professional guidelines and legislation, related to the use of medicines and practice of pharmacy in the specialist areas
* Understanding and practical experience of audit and service improvement
* Experience of managing a team of professional and support staff
