The Vacancy The role of the Transport Manager, is to be accountable for the safety, legal, compliance and operator licencing and efficient execution of transport plans, ensuring SLA's/KPI's are achieved. Transport Managers are front and centre of the transport operation, demonstrating 21st century driver engagement and management. In addition to being a the Transport Manager the position is responsible for the wellbeing, performance and motivation of their team through regular performance dialogues, scheduled quarterly 1-2-1's as well as ad-hoc communication and engagement. Knowledge, skills, and experience Ensure Environmental, Health & Safety requirements are met: Comply with H&S policy & standards. Identify and report hazards, incidents and accidents. Keep work area clean and tidy. Use 5S’s. Use equipment in a safe manner. Safe, legal compliance and efficient execution of transport operations during a duty shift to network SLA's/KPI's. Review and amend where appropriate daily plans issued to the operation. Daily operations issue management and resolution for transport operations, with local warehouse teams and in support of Customer Services. Management of short term & long-term driver absence and reallocation of work. Responsible for driver and fleet legal compliance in accordance with Operator Licencing standards. Ensuring 100% compliance with (and sampling with yard checks) pre-shift check and defect processes. Ensuring all fleet management (OPS) processes are adhered to. Ownership and accountability for driver induction, training and ensuring qualifications are up to date for all drivers reports. Full responsibility for all operator licence requirements and support to Executive team named. Ensuring all drivers are appropriately trained and familiarised with both operations and equipment. Manage operational costs and identification of cost performance trends - i.e. fuel performance/accidents etc. Support of transport and network project and initiatives. Support with adherence to all compliance and legal obligations with a huge emphasis on safety, deputising in their absence Ensure all process and procedures are followed and that we operate a safe and efficient environment Provide leadership and guidance for the Transport team to enable them to meet objectives, encouraging open communication Work with the Senior Leadership team and RDC Network team to deliver products into RDC network and Subsidiaries Maintain accurate and timely records as required adhering to specified periods 3rd party collections and opportunities for back haul revenue This list is not exhaustive. Success in building high performing teams. Have experience of managing large fast paced transport operations. Strong leadership skills being able to motivate and engage people at all levels. Strong knowledge of Road Transport Regulations, Health & Safety, fleet compliance and working time directives. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong decision-making skills, and a sense of responsibility. High levels of literacy and numeracy plus attention to detail and data analysis. Ability to work under pressure and deal with challenging situations professionally.
