As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with particular experience in building and growing teams. This role suits someone who is passionate about integrating environmental input within the Planning process. A Chartered Town Planner, and the role forms part of the leadership for the Planning and Environmental Assessment and Management (PEAM) Team.

With your expertise in environmental management, technical skills, or sustainability, your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

You will work on a diverse range of projects including large-scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water, defense, mixed-use development schemes for private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects, as well as smaller projects requiring a nimble and agile approach. We promote technical excellence, flexibility, collaboration, and digital innovation. You will play a key role in delivering multidisciplinary projects across the UK and worldwide.
You will also be responsible for:
1. Leading recruitment, growth, overseeing bidding and project delivery, and managing key client relationships.
2. Coordinating and delivering planning and environmental work by multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development, and optimizing environmental and planning outcomes.
3. Supporting business development through market profile activities, client engagement, and networking.
4. Raising awareness of our services, winning new opportunities, and building contacts.
5. Engaging with consultees and stakeholders.
6. Managing projects, ensuring performance in technical, quality, commercial, and health & safety aspects.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Excellent knowledge of the UK Planning system and consenting process, including EIA practices, case law, and environmental principles.
* Experience across various project types.
* Strong report writing, communication, and presentation skills, with experience in reviewing work for quality.
* Leadership in multi-disciplinary project coordination, project management, and technical skills.
* Experience in consulting, negotiating with authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
* Commercial expertise in forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
* Relevant degree, preferably with chartered status or working towards it.
* A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative work approach.
* Experience with DCO/TWAO/Hybrid Bills delivery.
