An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 5 Pharmacy Technician to join the St Mary's Pharmacy team, working within the St Mary's Community Health Campus in Portsmouth.
The team dispenses medicines to all patients attending or admitted to healthcare units in the Trust's East area, and provides support and supply services, particularly to Mental Health and Community Hospitals.
Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians provide clinical pharmacy services to wards and community patients across the Trust's service lines and localities, including services into GP practices.
This role is dispensary based, and suitable applicants will have the necessary problem-solving and decision-making skills and experience to add value to a team dedicated to providing an approachable, efficient, and accurate pharmacy service.
Main duties of the job
1. Labelling and dispensing of medication, including controlled drugs, monitored dose systems, and clinical trials.
2. Final checking of prescriptions for accuracy prior to release.
3. Participating in ward-based Medicines Management services to on and off-site wards on a rotation.
4. Participating in the rotation of the clozapine service.
5. Collecting NHS prescription charges and using the till including cashing up procedures.
6. Liaising with ward staff, clinics, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring problems with prescriptions are referred to the appropriate member of staff.
7. Provision of information on the correct use of medicines, counselling patients.
8. Providing compliance aids/cards to minimize barriers to concordance and tailor the pharmacy service to the needs of the individual patients.
9. Ensure that each patient has sufficient understanding of how to manage their treatment including to-follow arrangements where necessary.
10. Prioritisation of workload to meet transport deadlines.
11. Contributing to pharmaceutical stock control within the department and on the wards, including participating in stock checks, tracing and resolving stock discrepancies, and liaising with procurement and distribution staff as necessary.
12. Contributing to the development of competency-based training packages.
13. Participating in data collection for planned audits.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services (or equivalent)
* Pharmacy Technician registered with General Pharmaceutical Council
* Evidence of CPD
Experience
* Experience of training and supervising technicians, assistants, and trainees in allocated areas
* Experience with pharmacy/healthcare related IT systems
* Experience with coordinating and prioritising workload
* Problem solving and decision making

* Highly motivated and enthusiastic
* Effective in both verbal and written communication
* Knowledge of the safe and secure handling of medicines
