Design Manager
Dandara Living is one of the leading companies in the UK's build-to-rent sector today. The business currently has close to 3,000 apartments under management, with an immediate development pipeline of a further 5,000 homes.
Due to further expansion, we are recruiting for Design Managers at all levels to be based in our Altrincham Head Office.
About the role
You will have general engagement with the Development Design team from conception to Stage 4/5 construction status. Managing the external consultants and ensuring critical dates are met to align with construction and procurement programmes. Input into pre-construction activities and scrutiny of design for buildability and cost value and liaison with relevant external bodies and local authorities as required.
What you will do
* Lead project external and internal design teams.
* Provide primary design management across a number of projects to facilitate the timely completion of design information to meet internal and external design programme targets, procurement and project budgets.
* Line management responsibilities for all consultants as agreed with the Operations and Project Design Director.
* Organise and co-ordinate design for each sub-contractor package.
* Management and checking of the internal and external drawings and submittals and manage weekly registers.
* Ensure all records of design changes are kept to coordinate “as built” drawings upon completion of the project.
* Ensure all of the above is coordinated through our drawing management portal – A-Site.
* Manage allocated resources within projects and produce project design programmes to assist in project resource planning across the department.
* Assist in developing a design delivery schedule in line with the contract deliverables.
* Assist the Project Director in incorporating onto a tracking schedule all design and cost issues.
* Closely track design deliverables to ensure project milestones are met.
You will also be involved in leading 3rd party involvement/agreements, CDM/Health & Safety, Procurement, Fees and External Consultant management.
What you will have
* Architecture, design and construction management, or architectural technology degree.
* Previous employment as a Technical Manager or Design Manager role.
* Excellent knowledge of construction standards, regulations, and legislation, including Health and Safety.
* Excellent, up-to-date, practical knowledge and experience of construction processes.
* Ability to present information in a clear and concise way to the team and to senior management, enabling effective decision-making.
* Proven experience of managing the design and operational performance of the design supply chain including setting and achieving challenging targets.
* Able to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
* Experience of document control systems such as Asite and Viewpoint.
* Excellent computer skills, CAD, and Microsoft packages.
