The Opportunity
As the Emergency Planning Branch Manager, you’ll be providing leadership to your team and stakeholders across our fleet on all emergency preparedness matters and performance. You will deliver a governance and assurance programme that supports the organisation to achieve regulatory compliance targets and to implement best practice across all aspects of the organisations emergency arrangements. Assurance activities will cover independent audits, site visits and capability assessments.
You will be the primary organisational point of contact for emergency preparedness with the industry regulator, providing high levels of stakeholder engagement and management. You will represent the organisation externally and engage in industry and sector development and enhancement activities.
You will deploy central resources to support nuclear power stations, prioritising activities based on a range of drivers.

What you’ll be doing
The requirements for this role include:
* Leadership across the fleet with the Emergency Planning teams, including monitoring compliance and ensuring support for all levels of the team
* Accountability to the Executive Leadership team, maintaining strong working relationships
* Preparing and maintaining the strategic plan supporting both the defueling activities and the ongoing generation of the relevant nuclear stations, maximising efficiencies and monitoring issues
* Supporting change for defueling and site transition, ensuring that emergency arrangements remain compliant but proportionate
* Assuring the organisation that the emergency arrangements are in a state of readiness, able to be deployed to a range of threats and hazards
* Monitoring work in the field, through visits, observations and a commitment to encourage initiative and remove barriers
* Evaluating company performance against industry best practice and regulatory requirements, continuously striving for improvement and progression
* Ensuring that problems or issues are tracked and investigated promptly and resolved efficiently
* Maintaining oversight of investment projects to support sustainable improvements to the emergency arrangements in line with identified priorities and improvement areas
* Assisting with additional project work or responsibilities of the Head of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality as required.
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who has significant nuclear, high hazard industry, or local authority emergency planning experience, with an operational and people management background. You’ll need to hold a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline, alongside exceptional communication, people management and negotiation skills. You should have experience in leading a team, implementing change programmes and interacting with external regulators.
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
