Owen Daniels have partnered with Polytec in Telford as they look to appoint a Head of Engineering to help lead and support the execution and successful delivery of secured business with major growth plans over the coming years. Polytec is a Tier 1 Automotive supplier of high-quality exterior plastic components, supplying into some of the biggest names in the Automotive industry.
Job Description
Strategy & Development
1. Overall responsibility for Engineering activities across the business.
2. Create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve business performance.
3. Ensure that engineering strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality, and delivery targets.
4. Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities.
5. Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process.
General & Task Management
1. Providing technical support to the business development, estimating, and onsite engineering teams.
2. Responsible for overseeing all aspects of build design, from contract award to handover.
3. Lead the preparation of technical and contract documentation for issue and analysis of returned tenders.
4. Assisting projects with value engineering and financial control of contracts during construction stage.
5. Develop planning and prioritise processes to ensure that multi-disciplinary resources are well aligned to maximise delivery of projects.
6. Ensure any new equipment or engineering activity is supported with appropriate qualification documentation and that this is appropriately stored.
7. Ensure up-to-date drawings are maintained appropriately.
8. Work with the Marketing department on product development, market opportunities, and trends.
People Management
1. Provide leadership to departments under control and coach, mentor, and develop direct reports.
2. Manage a high-performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value, and cost reductions.
3. Set department objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance.
4. Ensure strong communication between teams under leadership to facilitate exchange of information and implement change and improvements.
Essential Qualifications / Experience / Skills
1. Educated to degree level (preferably Masters) in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent NVQ Level 7 qualification.
2. Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering function with a proven track record in strategic engineering leadership.
3. Knowledge and technical understanding of automotive processes, components, and design techniques.
4. Ability to add value, reduce costs, and make business improvements.
5. Proven project management and supplier experience.
6. Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level.
7. Track record of successfully managing multiple large-scale projects.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience / Skills
1. Fellow or Chartered Member of an industry-related Professional Body.
2. Project Management qualification e.g. PRINCE2.
