The role An opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, proactive and customer focused individual to join the Council’s high performing Finance team. The post will be part of the Budget Management team, with the focus being on supporting the ‘Innovation & Change’ and ‘Environment, Civic Pride & Climate’ directorates. The main role of this post will be: To prepare robust and prudent budgets for income and expenditure in accordance with corporate guidance and in line with the council’s budget setting timetable; To work closely with service managers, advising and supporting them in monitoring their budgets accurately to facilitate reporting and decision making; and To carry out year end duties contributing to the closing of accounts process About you The Senior Accountant post would be well suited to a fully or part CCAB qualified accountant looking for an opportunity to progress their career, with scope to develop their experience in a range of areas including supporting shared and outsourced services. To succeed in the role, you will need the ability to act on your own initiative and work under pressure. You should also be a solid team player with the ability to prioritise to meet tight deadlines. Good communication skills are essential as a key part of the role is to support and train service managers with their budgets and develop relationships with them to secure timely information and enhanced understanding of financial issues. You should have experience of public sector finance as well as strong numeracy and literacy skills.
