What Will Be Your Environment:
Our site specialises in the manufacture of additives for Lubrizol Performance Coatings. Working to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO-14001:2015 standards, the plant specializes in manufacturing both aqueous and solvent based resins, polymers, dispersants and adhesion promoters for the metals and coatings industries.
Working with our customers, we produce essential ingredients in the formulation of organic and inorganic pigments used in the paints and coatings, printing inks, plastics, wood finishing and metal coatings industries. Our products give the end user extremely efficient particle dispersion, particle size stability and provide the highest level of appearance and performance. The products manufactured at Huddersfield are widely used across the world.
What You'll Do:
As a Quality Manager you will ensure the site maintains ISO9001:2015 certification by supporting adherence to procedures as well as developing and ensuring adherence to internal, external and customer audit programs, you will provide site wide leadership to supply finished goods to our customers in the most effective way, ensuring attention to HS&E, quality, cost and time.
You will ensure that timely testing is carried out of plant produced material in addition to extension testing or rework determination of existing inventory in order to maximise on time deliveries keeping inventory on target. You will coach your direct reports and ensure that they are trained and developed to meet production goals. In your role you will aim to prevent product quality complaints by ensuring the appropriate release of acceptable quality material produced at site.
What We're Looking For:
The following accountabilities are identified for the role of Quality Manager
1. Responsible manager for all Quality operations within a Lower tier COMAH regulated facility.
2. Manage site quality testing requirements for final and in-process testing from plant in addition to extension testing and complaint investigation.
3. Coordinate the reporting of test results for finished goods, recording conformance to sales specification, UD (Usage Decision) to facilitate production of customer C of As.
4. Coordinate the monitoring of product performance, highlighting out of trend batches.
5. Coordinate the determination of end-use for existing products and processes, whether under planned end-use or through unplanned end-use, for example rework or scrap. Ensure communication of unplanned end-use to the relevant parties e.g. scheduling / CSR group etc.
6. Responsible for developing and improving anlytical methods, demonstrating reproducibility and relevance of product specifications as measured at the site which influence customers applications.
7. Key contibuter for ISO registration at the site ensuring compliance with current standards and maintenance of accreditation.
8. Maintain and ensure adherence to internal, external and customer audit programs.
9. Responsible for ensuring raw materials are consumed within our purchase specification.
10. Manage the QC labs to ensure good housekeeping is maintained in lab area and all chemicals handled and stored safely. Ensure all relevant lab equipment is calibrated, serviced and in good working order. Coordinate the organisation of relevant external contractors for calibration and service of equipment.
11. Manage and conduct testing following all laboratory procedures and standards of care, ensure completeness and accuracy of the testing undertaken and results reported.
12. Manage the problem solving any testing and analyses issues.
13. Manage in process PT support for existing products and processes.
14. Manage site-initiated PT projects evaluating existing products and processes.
15. Coordinate the completion of investigation and root cause analysis of quality issues, including complaints, ensuring these are captured in the relevant system and corrective / preventative actions distributed and completed accordingly.
16. Monitor quality performance at site w.r.t key quality metrics and inputs.
17. Represent the plant in quality / lab-oriented matters within the regional and global groups/teams.
18. Promote continuous improvement on site, contributing to or leading continuous improvement projects as required.
19. Work with customer assistance teams and sales / account managers to provide timely responses to customer and internal queries, concerns or questionnaires.
20. Ensure the correct specification data and BOM data is stored in SAP.
21. Lead quality team, ensuring competence of direct reports and implementation of people development.
22. Participate in management of change process, evaluating changes, highlighting and assisting in resolving potential quality issues.
23. Train and supervise both experienced/inexperienced members of staff so that technical knowledge and competence is communicated effectively. Correct and coach colleagues to ensure continuance of a high level of analytical expertise.
24. Coordinate the testing and evaluation of new methodology and equipment, advising on the impact to the department. Liaise with technical contacts to ensure the smooth integration of new methodology.
25. Maintain a positive work environment/culture that fosters efficiency, effectiveness and high morale while ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and equitably.
Skills That Make a Difference:
26. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other related STEM discipline.
27. 3+ years of hands-on experience in the Chemical industry.
28. Thorough knowledge of technical background, regulatory requirements and industry standards for processing and manufacture of dispersants.
29. Demonstrated ability in the area of product transfer and scale-up, from lab bench to manufacturing, and/or to commercial scale, including process design, design of experiments, and statistical applications to support process evaluation and trending.
30. Demonstrated ability to write procedural documents required for compliance to ISO9001:2015 including documents such as Standard Operating Procedures etc.
31. Understanding of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.
32. Auditor experience preferably with experience coordinating external audits.
33. Capacity to collaborative and coaching others.
34. Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills with an emphasis on the ability to analyse large data sets.
35. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
36. Excellent planning and time management skills, meeting company and business deadlines.
37. Excellent people management and supervision skills.
38. Ability to understand and develop new test procedures.
39. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
40. Proactively adapts to changes in the business and supports peers in the management team with implementation.
41. Above average knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite & SAP.
42. Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment.
