Role: CNC Setter/Operator (Permanent)

Job Description
We are currently seeking a CNC Machine Cell Setter/Operator to join our team in Bedford on a permanent, full-time basis. This role involves setting and operating a cell of CNC and manual machines to carry out inter-related machining operations on components, ensuring high-quality output in line with specifications.
Key Responsibilities
• Set and operate CNC and manual machines, working to job-specific set-up sheets, tooling lists, and engineering drawings.
• Follow the Right First-Time philosophy, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and quality manufacturing.
• Load and unload components manually or using jib cranes, ensuring safe and secure mounting.
• Accurately set machine tools using multiple tooling stations and operate both CNC controls and semi-automatic gearshaper machines.
• Conduct visual and dimensional inspections using a variety of measuring tools to confirm compliance with quality standards.
• Maintain machine cleanliness and carry out routine lubrication.
• Promptly report any defects or issues with machinery or measuring instruments to minimise downtime and scrap.
• Work collaboratively with Production Engineering, Quality, and Supervision teams to enhance efficiency and solve problems.
• Support and engage in Kaizen and lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Perform any other tasks as directed by the Value Stream Manager.
Skills & Experience Requirements
• Proven experience setting and operating CNC Turning, Milling, or Mill/Turn machines.
• Competent in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Solid understanding of Geometric Tolerancing.
• Proficient in using engineering measurement tools and techniques.
• Good manual dexterity with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and meet production deadlines.
• Calm under pressure, flexible, hardworking, and a team player with a proactive approach.
Minimum Requirements
• Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent.
• Previous experience with CNC machines in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Demands
• This is a hands-on role requiring standing, walking, lifting, and manual dexterity.
• Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• Manual handling includes:
o Regular lifting/moving up to 5 kg
o Frequent lifting/moving up to 10 kg
o Occasional lifting/moving up to 20 kg
Shift Pattern & Working Hours
Total Weekly Hours: 37 Hours
Location: On-site in Bedford
Standard Shifts (Monday to Thursday):
• Early Shift: 06:00am – 14:30pm
• Late Shift: 14:30pm – 23:00pm
Overtime (Optional):
• Late Shift Overtime (Mon–Thurs): 13:30pm – 22:00pm (Time and a Half)
• Friday Day Shift: 10:00am – 15:00pm (Time and a Half)
• Sunday: (Double Time)
